Default I am going to go insane

I have been trying to BF for over 3 weeks now-but it seems I have created a monster.

My daughter will NOT give me a break. She wants to be latched on to me 24/7. Literally, it is almost 10pm here and she has been awake, in my arms and latched to my breast since 12:30pm this afternoon. She dozed off a couple of times, but as soon as I would lay her down in the bassinet is wide awake and screaming.

She will not take a pacifier and although she will take a bottle from SO, she is not hungry for milk-she just wants to suck.

Both of my nipples are slap worn out-I can barely stand to have them touched. What should I do?

When you give her a paci, what does she do? Have you tried different kinds?

We have had similiar issues--but Grace is going through a growth spurt right now, so she's attached to my boob for milk. When she wants to suck, she'll take a paci but it takes a lot of trial and error to find out which one she wants AND I usually have to hold it for her for the first bit.

I bought one of every kids of paci that Babies R US sells for 0-3 months and she will let me put it in her mouth, then she screams and lets it fall out.

I guess I would think she was on a growth spurt and hungry if she wasn't spitting up a lot of the milk she taking in. I just wish I knew what to do!

She sounds like a normal newborn to me. The first 6-8 weeks of BFing are like 'bootcamp' for nursing. It is relentless. Once you hit that 8 week mark things get easier and you are not nursing 24/7. A newborns tummy is only the size of a walnut and BM has no "filler" like formula does, so all of it is easily digestable. She may very well be having her 3-week growthspurt given her age. During growspurts they nurse more often than not, even the non-nutritive sucking is necessary to boost your supply- pacifers and bottles during a growthspurt may very well cause a good nursing relationship to encounter some rocky ground.

Hang in there.....the first 6-8 weeks of intensitity are normal newborn behavior and once you weather this 'storm' you will reap the benefits the rest of your nursing relationship.

Why don’t you consult your doctor. That may help.
