Icon5 HELP! Breastfeeding/toddler question.

I posted this over in another board, but I'm new here, so just finding out where I should be posting these things. Sorry. My question is this: has anyone else had trouble with an older child (in my case, it's my 23 month old, who was weaned at 19 months), and them wanting to nurse again or getting jealous or mad when you try to nurse your new baby? I am having major issues with this-so much so that I have to nurse almost in secret or make sure that Gemma is distracted before I try to breastfeed my newborn. It's getting ridiculous. I don't want to start nursing G again, she doesn't need it, but I just need tips/advice or anything! I'm desperate. Anyone?

My toddler wasn't/isn't weaned, but she certainly does get jealous when I need to nurse her sister. I tell her to wait until her sister is finished, but sometimes I have to do both at once which really strains my bad back. She went from nursing 2-3x/day to as often as I'll let her.

Is there any way you could try something like reading her a book while your baby is nursing? let her cuddle up next to you so she's getting all your attention except for the boob?

Good luck!

i'll second kara's suggestion.

the other one i have is to let the older child try- she may just want to know that you love her enough to let her. if she has been weaned for awhle, chances are she will only mouth the nipple anyways, as many times they forget how to nurse.

i didn't have this problem, as my ds weaned on his own, and then picked it back up again after his sister was born- but we practice clw anyways, so it wasn't a problem here. good luck!
