have your thoughts changed?
Have your thoughts or perceptions of breastfeeding changed from before you breastfed? If so, what has changed about them? If you have more than one child, have any of your thoughts changed from child to child?

Re: have your thoughts changed?
I thought it would be easy. I don't know why. I guess I just assumed I always had big breasts therefore it was only fair if they would come in useful some day!! Rather silly actually. We had a heck of a time the first several days, and having very large breasts made it harder.

Re: have your thoughts changed?
I always thought extended BFing was weird. Now, The nurse thought I was weird yesterday when I said I was still pumping milk for DS (he weaned at 24 months due to pg). With DD I fully plan to go as long as she wants and nursing a school aged child no longer bothers me.

Re: have your thoughts changed?
Hmmm...
Before having my first at age 19 I don't think I ever thought about breastfeeding. My mom and all of my aunts bottle fed. I thought that was just what you did. Then when I was having Ashleigh the breastfeeding revolution, as it were was underway. I was practically forced into breastfeeding, lol. I remember being frustrated and asking the nurse to bring me a bottle to feed my baby. Do you know what she told me? She said NO. Breast is the best and went on to list all of the benefits of breastfeeding. Um. Okay. Guess I'll be nursing then. When I got home my mother and aunty were sterilizing bottles for me. I'll never forget this. They started reminiscing about their experiences with babies and talking about sterilization bottles and making formula in the middle of the night. I was horrified. I knew then I had to make this breastfeeding thing work. A public health nurse who had been following me and sort of mentoring me through pregnancy came by and checked on my baby's latch and really provided a lot of encouragment through engorgement and sleepy baby issues, etc. etc. She hooked me up with La Leche League and I went on nursed Ashleigh for 2 years. It was amazing and I became a breastfeeding Icon in my family, funny but true. That very aunt who didn't breastfeed her first child went on to breastfeed her next two kids for over 2 year apiece.
So have my thoughts changed? I think so
