Default Drinking wine when BF

My husband and I love drinking wine (when i'm not pregnant)...
Can you drink wine when breastfeeding...?
With my son I didn't...
Would you wait so many hours before nursing again.
Or do you have to pump and dump?
We love our wine(glass or two) with dinner and the local wineries
Any advice?

it is fine to have an occasional drink when nursing. just don't get sloshed.

if you are feeling the effects thoguh, it would be wise to wait a bit before nursing. it is not necessary to pump and dump.

i personally would not have any alcoholic drinks in the first several weeks after baby's birth. they nurse all the time at that point, and their liver and other organs are still so immature, that it isn't easy for them to elimiante toxins from their bloodstreams. just my thoughts though.

I completely agree with the above. I have the occasional glass of wine or mixed drink. Hasn't affected my kids at all.

Here..... I copy/pasted this from the helpful info stickie above:

For a 100 lbs mom: 1 drink will clear your milk in 3 hrs, 2 drink will take 6 hrs, 3 drinks will take 9 hrs, 4 drinks will take 12.5 hrs, 5 drinks will take 16 hrs and 6 drinks would take 19 hrs to clear your system.

For a 120 lbs mom: 1 drink will clear you milk in 3 hrs, 2 drinks will take 5 hrs, 3 drinks will take 8 hrs, 4 drinks will take 10.5 hrs, 5 drinks will take 13 hrs and 6 drinks would take 16 hrs to clear you system.

For a 140 lbs mom: 1 Drink will clear your milk in 2 hrs, 2 drinks will take 4.5 hrs, 3 drinks will take 7 hrs, 4 drinks will take 9 hrs, 5 drinks will take 11 hrs and 6 drinks would take 13.5 hrs to clear your sysetm.

For a 160 lbs mom: 1 drink will clear you milk in 2 hrs, 2 drinks will take 4 hrs, 3 drink will take 6 hrs, 4 drinks will take 8 hrs, 5 drinks will take 10 hrs and 6 drinks would take 12 hrs to clear your system.
I agree it's wasteful and unneccessary to pump & dump.... less than 1/3 of the feeding is actually "stored" in the breast..... the majority is produced as the baby is nursing.... so what's in your system is what matters......

Best to have a drink just after a feed so you have as much time as possible before the next.... or have some expressed milk handy if you're planning on drinking a little bit more......

Like anything, moderation is the key..... but you don't have to live deprived just because you're the food source, lol...... enjoy!
