differences in terminology
there are differences in terminology used when it comes to breastfeeding. when it comes down to it, things like return of fertility and other things are frequently influenced by these differences.
here are the technical definitions:
EXCLUSIVE BREASTFEEDING; this is all feeds at the breast with no supplements of any kind.
PRIMARILY BREASTFEEDING; this is most feeds at the breast with some supplements, either aim or expressed mother's milk.
EXCUSIVELY BREASTMILK FEEDING; this is all feeds consisting of mother's milk, whteher at the breast, or via alternate feeding method.
any feeds not directly at the breast, and the infant not meeting ALL suckling needs at the breast, is usually the first step in triggering the return of a woman's fertility, despite bf. this does not hold true for all, but holds true for the vast majority.
