Default Cold questions

I have a cold and I am nursing my DD who is 7 months. I have chest congestion, ots of sneezing and major sinus pressure/pain along witha fever.

What can i take? I have been taking tylenol for the fever but the pain in my head is really bad and i cant get it to stop. What do you take? Would you take sudafed?

You can take sudafed but it is bad for supply, along with claritin D. Addi and I both had a nasty virus back around Christmas. I got some Tylenol Head Congestion and it was great. I did take claritin d twice which cleared me up to breathe but gave me bad insomnia. Not good!! Also if coughing becomes an issue be wary of menthol cough drops as that can also affect supply. Hope you feel better soon. Sick mommy is the worst! Oh yeah, I used a warm mist humidifier and that helped tremendously at night!

I'D ALTERNATE TYLENOL AND MOTRIN FO RTHE PAIN ITSELF. FOR THE PRESSURE, I'D RECOMMEND real MASSAGE OVER MEDS ANYDAY. IT WON'T FEEL GOOD AT FIRST, BUT ONCE IT HAS OPENED EVERYHTING UP IT IS SUCJH A HELP.

AND I'D LIKELY BE USING A NETIPOT TO GET RID OF THE GUNK QUICKER, AND FOR MAINTANACEW AFTERWARDS.

*I* CAN'T TAKWE SUDAFED AND NURSE, BECAUSE IT REALLY KILLS MY SUPPLY.

(SORRY CAPS ARE STUCK- I'M NOT "YELLING" INTENTIONALLY, LOL)

Good advise so far!

I can't take Sudafed because it just makes me jittery as all h3ll, and it is bad for your supply. Mucinex works well to help clear out the congestion by thinning the mucous and making it easier to drain, and it has never affected my supply. I've been taking it for years, since way before it became OTC.

I have a chronic sinus condition that leads to sinus infections pretty much any time I get a cold or a good allergy attack. What I do when it gets bad is to alternate Motrin and Tylenol, take 1200mg Mucinex 2x/day (prescription strength dose), cool mist humidifier, and as many hot, steamy showers as my children will let me take . If you have access to a steam sauna that is the BEST, but I don't so a hot shower it is

I know how miserable those things are and I hope you get over it soon, mama!
