Clicking noise while nursing
My son is almost 6 weeks old, exbf, no paci, and makes a clicking noise(breaking the suction) while nursing. He's gaining weight well, up nearly 3lbs from birthweight already, and my nipples aren't hurting, but my question is, could this be causing his gassy/fussy problems? He really is a good baby most of the time, sleeps well, naps well, and has some good alert times, but some days he is fussy, fussy and most days he is super gassy. None of my others have ever made the clicking noise(which I've read can be a poor latch), so I've not run across this issue before.

Re: Clicking noise while nursing
clicking noises mean the latch is bad...he could be doing this due to thrush, toungue tied (though you would know)...but the clicking....plain and simple... bad latch.

Well, we don't have thrush, and my diet is pretty plain and simple(this is number 4 nursling), I even cut dairy out to see if it made a difference. Nope.

Re: Clicking noise while nursing
Well if you've ruled out thrush & diet problems causing the gas then you're left with a poor latch. Does babe have both upper and lower lips completely flared out around your areola? A wide open mouth centered right over your nipple and all (or the majority) of your nipple well into his mouth? If this is babe #4 nursing for you, you probably know some of the things to look for and what a proper latch should feel like......sometimes the babies start out good and the latch deteriorates over time (babe gets lazy) - might just be a matter of correcting him at initial latch-on for several feeds before the good latch becomes second nature.......
Good Luck!

Re: Clicking noise while nursing
Shannon, I think that may be the problem, he slides off, pulls off, then sucks it back in I keep repositioning him, but I think he prefers *less* of the nipple. It really doesn't feel any different, but I have, *ahem* nipples of steal Anyway, I will just keep repositioning him(this is what I have been doing the past day or so) and see if that helps. TY

Check this out http://www.kellymom.com/bf/supply/fast-letdown.html and see if it may apply.
I had the same situation as you and those suggestions (from above link) helped us alot. Good luck!

Re: Clicking noise while nursing
Thank you Leigh Ann! I knew the gassiness/fussiness could be from forceful letdown(which I DO have, poor guy) but I had no idea about the clicking or the dislike of *comfort nursing*. It sounds like that is the problem, and I'm going to start some of the suggestions
