hormonal birth control.

grrr. a girl i know had her baby and all was going well, then she got the depo-shot. her dr said it was fine and wouldn't be any problem. this happens too often, i know a few people who took it and had no problems, but i know a lot more who had serious supply problems after receiving this. :sigh:

anyways, the topic i'll make from this is what forms of birth control do YOU know about that do not interfere with a woman's supply? do you think that the knowledge is regional?

here, doctors know next to nothing about bf, and nursing relationships are sabotaged all the time.

condoms don't seem to affect it

Here they recommend the mini-pill and only the min-pill to BFing moms

The mini-pill. It's progeestin-only and doesn't affect milk production. I had no problems nursing the first year on them. But they're not as effective and MUST be taken near the same time every day.

I got a Mirena IUD and it is progesterone, so I should be okay.

iirc from when i was working at the health dept, depo-provera is only progesterone as well, but i have seen it affect many.

i used to tell my moms to ask about the minipill first, ebcause this way the few that did have a problem with it could just stop tkaing it, rather than the hormones being int heir systems fighting against supply for 3 months..

we use condoms on my fertile days

I've only ever used condoms while nursing... But now we don't even have to bother with those. Gotta love a vasectomy

I was on the mini pill when I became pg with my 1st, just thought I'd toss that in there too

Too bad. I used to use the mini-pill. I haven't started it again yet, as I don't want anything to possibly affect supply. No AF yet either so I would have been taking them for nothing.... as you have to be doing it to get pg! DH not interested with me nursing. Oh well, can't say that I am either. I'm hoping that will change once I am done nursing.

that decrease in libido happens for some women, oddly enough it doesn't happen each time for many of them...lol, then again i guess it is just like pregnancy? some women have no desire for anything other than sleep, food, or both, while some get especially "needy" (was hard to come up with a way to put that delicately, lol).

at least both of you have matching drives right now though. it would suck if you were horny and the dh was turned off by breastfeeding...

I was on Depo after my 2nd was born.....and stayed on it for 4 years - I never connected it with my supply issues though.....I had the same problems with #2 that I did with #1 (and #3, btw) and I was on the mini-pill after #1 and nothing after #3 (we did the Vac. too, lol)

BTW Terri Lynn, I have to say I LOVE LOVE LOVE that siggy pic of Reece in the bubble bath! Too cute!
