Default Can someone help us?

I mainly lurk on here, but have come to quite a dilemma and need some expert help.

My son is almost 3 months old. He was introduced to EBM around 6 to 7 weeks when I went back to work part-time. He takes 1 to 3 bottles with 4 oz (more or less) in them while I am at work. This is only Monday, Wednesday, & Friday nights from 5:30 to 11 and he falls asleep around 9 usually. In the beginning it was difficult but he caught on quite quickly and up until Wednesday we have not had any problems. But Wednesday night I left for work around 5:30p and by 8:30 my husband called me to tell me that he was about to pull his hair out because ds wouldn't stop crying or take the bottle. So instead of pumping which I do at 9p on those nights, I went home and fed him. Same thing happened tonight (Friday). I had to come home and feed him, and then he falls asleep for the night.

Question is...How do we get this to stop? Do I just not come home and he will learn? Because I don't think that will work. My husband has to wake up around 5am and to deal with a screaming infant from 5:30 pm till 11 pm is not going to work. Please help!

Have you tried different nipples on the bottle? Maybe a faster flow will help him feel more comfortable with it. Some babies learn to drink from a cup this early, I have not needed to do that with my kids but hopefully someone on here might have some info on how to cup train your baby.

Is he refusing all of his bottles while you are gone, or just the last one? If it's just the last one, that just sounds like a colicky sort of thing to me, esp. given that it's day's end. So though I do feel bad for your husband tearing his hair out, he may just have to stick it out. Colic requires some suffering and some sleeplessness. I suppose the other option is for you to permanently alter your schedule at work, but I don't know how possible that is.

If your son is refusing all the bottles, then yes, I'd say experiment with different nipples and hope you hit on something he likes better. Good luck!
