Icon5 Breast Pain

I have started having pain in my right breast when he latches on and afterwards. It is a burning like pain and can be sharp. Since I am new to this, is this the possible begining of a clogged duct? Or has his suck bruised something?

The left side is fine and doesnt bother me at all and I just dread his feedings on the right.

Thanks

in the breast itself, or on the nipple/areola? i am gonna guess in the breast itself, and that woulnd't be a bruise fmr his suck, but more likely a plugged duct starting. nurse lots more on that side, use massage, especially in the area of tenderness, and a hot washcloth/heatpack could even be helpful, also, make sure that you're not wearing a too-tight bra or underwire, and if you sleep on your side, make sure not to put pressure on that breast, and if you sleep on your tummy, try to stop.

the burning sounds more like thrush, but it being only on one side

I knew Mamabear would have a thorough technical answer for you so I let her go first.

Here's my very non technical answer...sometimes it just hurts! Nursing changes so many times, the baby's latch changes, their position changes...it just changes. But about the time you think you can't stand it, or at least this it how it was for me, things would change again and I'd forget what was bothering me before.

For what it's worth, I never had a plugged duct or mastitis or thrush in Addi. None of that and yet still nursing would periodically get uncomfortable or downright painful, and then it would get ok again.

I hope this passes quickly for you!

It starts at the nipple and goes into the breast. It feels prickly when he latches on and then afterwards it will just start hurting again.

We have an appoint for his 2 mo on Thursday and I will see if it is thrush then.

Thanks

I second what ,mama bear said. A really, really hot shower over your breast right before nursing also helps if it is a plugged duct.
