Bottlefeeding a BF baby
DS is almost 11 weeks old. He goes to a sitter 5 days/week while I work. We gave him bottles here and there the few weeks leading up to me going back to work, and while they weren't his favorite, he begrudgingly took them.
I've now been back to work for 2 weeks, and it's getting worse. He wouldn't take a bottle for my mom at all on Friday while she watched him. He ate at 7 am, 12:30 pm (I was able to go home for lunch, which I normally cannot do when he is at the sitter's), and 5:30 pm, when I was able to be home to BF him. I had to go to work early yesterday and he wouldn't take a bottle for DH at all. The sitter says he kinda takes the bottle but mostly plays around with the nipple.
I know there are other feeding systems, but I'd really like to get him to take a bottle, mostly for the sake of the sitter, who has other children to watch.
So, here's my thoughts. I know the general consensus is to give a bf baby a slow flow nipple so they don't get too 'spoiled' by the ease of bottlefeeding. However, I have extremely fast and powerful letdown (I just pumped 4 oz in 7 min). So I am thinking perhaps the bottle isn't fast enough for him and he gets mad so he quits. Should I try some faster nipples? I don't want to waste the money or cause nipple confusion, but I also really would like for him to take a bottle easier for everyone's sake!
Thanks,
Amy
