Default Birth Control Question

Hi everyone! I have been taking the minipill for 6 months now. My ds is 7 months old. I am able to get the regular ortho novum across the border in Mexico for a whole lot cheaper. I am worried about it affecting my milk supply though. I've done a little bit of research, but can anyone tell me if it will affect it to the point that I will be forced to quit nursing, or will it just be a slight drop in supply. I was thinking that since my supply is pretty well established that I might be ok. Any help would be greatly appreciated! TIA!

I thought the biggest problem was the risk of hormones getting into the milk and into the baby? I could be wrong, but I personally just wouldn't risk it. There are too many instances of counterfeit pharmaceuticals in those types of situations. I hated the minipill, as it gave me a period every other week, so I went off it and we used condoms and charting until DS weaned, and I could go back on the regular pill. Hopefully someone else will have some more reliable info for you!

I used the minipill with no problems. I don't think I would go with full-strength hormonal birth control because I think it just isn't worth the risk to your supply. Every woman is different, but I've heard of nothing but problems with supply and BC.

as i've had many clients (plus my sister) who had problems with the progesterone-only bc, i could never in good conscience recommend someone take estrogen on top of it.

that being said, estrogen is on the aap's list for being approved for use in bf mothers, even though it is well-documented that it has a reducing impact on supply and in many cases leads to premature weaning.

i'd stick with the minipill if it is working for you and use charting(nfp) or condoms or foam as backup if you're worried about the minipill not being effective.

Currently I'm taking Lo-Estrin FE 24's (not minipill) and it hasn't affected my supply at all.

I personally wouldn't. I'm afraid to even take the minipill that was prescribed for me because I've been told by several people was a damaging effect it can have on milk supply.
