Default bf supplementation

I was wondering if anyone had any knowledge or advice on supplementaion.
My baby is less than 2 weeks old and can not get full. She weighed 10lbs 2oz at birth, so she is quite a chunk already. Her ped advised me at her first office visit I needed to supplement with formula to get her back to her birth weight. We did that and then stopped, but again it seems like she is not getting enough. She literally could eat all day. She will fall asleep on the breast but wake up when I try to unlatch her. Several people I know have suggested mixing a little cereal with the breastmilk, but I don't know. I just want to do what is best for my baby.
Any thoughts appreciated.

My advice? Ignore your peditrician(doctors get very little if any instruction on BFing). Do not supplement. Newborns are supposed to nurse all the time. Seriously, they have a growthspurt at 2-3 weeks of age and the only way she can boost your supply is to nurse, nurse, nurse. Supplementing will only increase the chance of having supply issues and is the sure fire way of ending a nursing relationship. Newborns stomaches are the size of walnuts and BM is disgested quickly. There is nothing wrong with your milk or your baby if all she wants to do is nurse.

As long as she is having her poopy/wet diapers then she is right on track. It is not uncommon nor does it signify anything wrong with your baby or your milk if she is being 100% BF and is not at her birth weight at 2 weeks. From my experience(with my boys) and from other friends that many, many BF babies are not at their birthweight until 3 weeks.

Hang in there, it takes until 5-6 weeks to full establish your milk supply and get somewhat of a routine down so that you don't feel like such a milk machine 24/7. Until you hit that mark, you are a milk machine. You are doing GREAT, don't give up!!!!!!

I agree..just keep nursing your baby as much as the baby wants. You don't automatically have milk, you have to make it and frequent nursings in the beginning is the way to do it. Just nurse nurse nurse.
