Has anyone heard of bf babies having reflux. I went to the doctor and she asked me if Asada was throwing up when she burped and she was a little but it never came out of her mouth. today i fed her and she burped and threw up like she had some formula. i have been giving her gripe water since thrusday because she has been acting realy colicky and i wanted to make sure her stomach wasn't upset.

Yes, a BF baby can still have reflux. It has nothing to do with what they are eating, but the immaturity of the sphinctor of their stomach muscle at the top of their stomach. This sphinctor will gain strength and the ability to be strong and then reflux will go away over the course of infancy.

BM is THE BEST food if your baby has some reflux, as it is mild and not very acidic, so it is less irritating to the esphogus than formula is.

Hang in there and keep your baby upright after feedings as much as possible. Also, I took my 2nd to a chiropractor when he was an infant and it greatly helped with both his reflux and the ear infections he was getting.

Reflux is BAD!!! And my bf baby has it! I agree with everything Nancy said. We take prevacid and it helps. Addi is 7.5 months old now and we'll continue meds till at least a year.

i agree with the above 2 posters. bf babies typically have less problems with reflux than those who are switched to aim because of how easily human milk is digested though, so it is stil the best thing for the lil one.

by the way, your little one is gorgeous, and you had a beautiful baby belly!

I am also dealing with this right now. Elizabeth has been screaming on and off without sleeping over a 12 hour period during the days. She doesn't throw up much but I hear stuff in her tummy and she burps really loud and shrieks in pain. We see the Dr. on Thursday, I feel so bad for her. I am so glad I am not alone.

it is getting better, i read somewhere to let them nurse longer to get more hindmilk. so when she nurses on one side and burps or poops, i put her back on that same side. now i just have to get her to sleep by herself again.

mama bear, thank you. i was so proud of it, even though i had stretchmarks. everybody used to tell me to pull down my shirt because i always had it showing.
