Default So here's the story so far...

Went in for my E2 b/w and u/s. I have a small follicle on the right and a 12 mm follicle on the left. My other b/w came back and I am not immune to Chicken Pox. They are still waiting on my other Immunological b/w (anticardiolipid, antiphospholipid antibodies etc...)

They are suggesting me to get the vaccination but I'm debating over whether I should or not...here are my pros and cons:

PROS
  • Protects the pregnancy I could possibly have in the future from heavy exposure
  • If I am vaccinated and I get Chicken Pox it will be less severe

CONS
  • With vaccination I can still get the virus
  • Without vaccination I could get chicken pox
  • Infection could be severe (I'm 33 and never had it)
  • If pregnancy takes place and I get it could cause m/c or severe birth defects.
  • If I don't get the vaccination and I don't get Chicken Pox then there is no chance of Shingles (secondary infection from the virus) that could occur at a later time
  • Have to cancel 1 month of trying

My mother had Shingles 4 years ago and she still suffers from Post Herpetic Neuralgia which at times is debilitating to her. I don't want to have that happen but at the same time I want to protect my future child...

So this is what I will be pondering over the next couple of days....I go back to the Dr on Tuesday for b/w and u/s again and see where we are at...

If you have made it this far you are a *great friend* Thanks!

Happy 4th to everyone!!

Actually what I meant to say in the CONS 5th bullet point is the following:

If I get the vaccination and I don't get Chicken Pox then there is a chance that I can have Shingles (secondary infection from the virus) that could occur at a later time
Sorry for the confusion...

Something I just found out....I was wrong about the last CON bullet point!

Have to cancel 1 month of trying
Since I am an adult I would have to get 2 shots subcutaneously spaced out at 4 and 8 weeks and then after receiveing the second shot I can't try again until at least 1 month has passed....so we are looking at me being out of TTC Commission for at least 3 months!!

That really sucks!! Now I'm really torn....

I don't work with children
I don't work in a hospital setting
My nephews are vaccinated
So my risk of exposure is less....however,

I do ride Mass Transit to get to work

I am so torn I've gone through 33 years of my life without exposure to this and now I'm afraid that if I don't get the shot I will risk everything if I get pregnant!!

Kim,

How fustrating!!!!
Yikes that is a tough decision. I wish I had some practical advice for you. Unfortunatly all I can give is sympathy and support.

I guess I would get the test redone or do a more senstive one (if it exists) just to make absoulutly sure. Any test can give a false positive or negative.

I'm not absoultely sure what I waould do. I'm kindo of cautious so I just might get the vaccine, figuring if I didn't I'd worry about every itch during the pregnancy. Maybe I would try to do things during the 3 months I knew I couldn't do once the treatments start.

I'm sorry you are going through all this. I hope it works out one way or another for you.
