Here is some info about the person hosting...
Mary Lou Ballweg is President and Executive Director of the Endometriosis Association. The non-profit organization provides support and information for women with endometriosis, educates the public and medical community about the disease, and promotes and conducts research related to endometriosis. The Endometriosis Association is the first organization in the world to address the support and education needs of women with endometriosis and to carry out an ongoing research program. The Association has more than 250 chapters and support groups and members in 66 countries.
Ms. Ballweg is credited with being the person most singly responsible for calling attention to endometriosis. Besides founding and leading the Association for the last 24 years, she has overseen publication of three books (Overcoming Endometriosis: New Help From The Endometriosis Association, The Endometriosis Sourcebook, and Endometriosis: The Complete Reference for Taking Charge of Your, production of two educational videotapes on endometriosis, an extensive body of literature on the disease, development and execution of a $1.3 million educational awareness campaign, two public service announcement campaigns and numerous articles and chapters in journals, magazines, newsletters and textbooks. She is also editor of the Association's bimonthly newsletter.
In 1992 she discovered a major link in the cause of endometriosis, research that has now been replicated many times, prompted numerous additional research studies, and received attention in leading scientific journals. Building on this work, a dedicated research program was established at Dartmouth Medical School in 1994. In 1998 Vanderbilt University School of Medicine entered into a partnership with the Endometriosis Association and committed $2 million to create a research facility dedicated to finding the cause, new treatments, and a cure for endometriosis. Vanderbilt's demonstrated commitment is a great testament to the accomplishments of Mary Lou Ballweg.
