Clomid vs injectables, one RE"s opinion.
I learned something from my RE that I thought you might find interesting. Usually RE's start you out on clomid and then if that doesn't work you graduate to injectables like GonalF or Repronex. However, my RE"s started me out on Bravelle right away.
So I finally got around to asking her why and essentially she said that for women that are not ovulating, clomid can work since they will then ovulate; however, it's not so good for unexplained infertillly. She also said that she doesn't like giving it to womene over 35 since it thin's the uterine lining (which is already a problem when you are over 35) and it also decreases cervical mucous (hence the need for an IUI). Plus you usually get more follies with injectables, so generally it works faster. The fewer side effects are another bonus. Of course the major drawback of injectables is their price!!!
Just keep in mind that this is just one RE's opinion but I thought you would all like to know.

My RE actually told me that they have a higher rate of success with injectables then clomid. I hope its true because we are starting Gonal F in about 3 weeks.
Jilda - Hows the pregnancy going? How are you feeling these days?

Re: Clomid vs injectables, one RE"s opinion.
Hi Meghan,
I did 8 rounds of clomid, over a period of time, 2 of follistim and 1 of Gonal F. Gonal F was the "wonder drug". Hope it is for you too!

Re: Clomid vs injectables, one RE"s opinion.
I've gotten so much positive feedback on it, I can only hope it lives up to my expectations!
We have training on the 15th, and AF should be here by the 19th.
Kerri - How is your pg going? Can you believe how quickly it is going by?

Re: Clomid vs injectables, one RE"s opinion.
Meghan - I hope the injectable are your ticket! From what I understand they have far fewer side effects so if you've survived 8 clomid cycles, you'll probably find the injectables a breeze (once you get over the needle thing).
So far the pg has been fine. I've been realeased from the RE's office and have my first OB visit on THursday.
