Default Back from new RE...

Hi Girls,

I went to see a new RE yesterday. The Dr seems very nice and the staff seemed very attentive. This center specalizes in infertility and has a pretty good track record.

This is what they have proposed to do...

Wait to see what happens with this natural cycle..

If AF should show, call on cd1 and make appt for cd3
Go in for Bloodwork, baseline ultrasound
Start Follistim (Pen) 600 IU a day (I think starting from day 3 of cycle to day 14 - 15 of the cycle?) it seems to depend on how I respond...
Trigger
IUI... possibly IVF depending on how many good eggs are found...Dr's exact quote was if we see that you have a good amount of eggs instead of cancelling the cycle we sometimes go in and extract the eggs and do IVF right away....

Keeping my fingers crossed....

Do this for 3 cycles and see how I am doing if this doesn't work going straight to IVF.

I think this sounds like a good plan....what do you all think?

Thanks for your feedback!

Hugs,
Kim

P.S. I miss the "Ice Cream" icon!!

Sounds like a plan! I like your new Doc, he/she/it seems to be up with it and interested, bottle them!!!!!!! (or tie yourself to them and don't let go!)

The plan itself sounds great (and sensible)

GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tam

Kim,
Sounds like he is very aggressive! How refreshing!

OK..my only concern...have you done an injectible cycle before? How did you respond to Clomid (ie: E2 # and how many follies)? 600IU is a lot....which is great if you can go right into an IVF cycle. Is IVF covered by your insurance? My typical response to Clomid 100mg's was 2-3 follies. My first injectible cycle with 75 IU (stimmed days 3-9) was cancelled due to OHSS. My E2 was 2545 with 8 follies. I couldn't go into an IVF cycle since my insurance doesn't cover it and we were not ready emotionally. Just something to think about. If you aren't in a real hurry you could start at 300IU and see how you do....of course your RE can always back down from the 600IU at anytime.

Good luck Kim! Keep us posted! We'll be looking for a BFP from you this month! (no pressure of course)

I miss the ice cream cone too!

Andrea

Hey Andrea!!

I am concerned about that too! I know of two different kinds of doses one is 300IU and the other is 600IU and the nurse said I would be starting the 600iu one... and thought that 600IU if broken down to 7 days would be about 85iu a day. I think that 75 is the minimum....but I will definitely talk to them before I start and make sure if this is right....

I've never done an injectible cycle before and this would be my first. When I took Clomid my Dr never monitored my E2 levels only did ultrasounds on days 11, 13, 15 and then I would usually trigger. I took 50mg's of Clomid 2x's a day = 100mg a day total and usually would only have 1 - 2 mature follies at trigger time.

600IU is a lot....which is great if you can go right into an IVF cycle.
One of the things that the Dr did say at our consult is that depending on how I respond to the meds (ie...if I have a lot of eggs and they were mature and good quality) instead of cancelling the cycle they would retreive them and do IVF and place 2 back in. So we would wind up going from an IUI cycle to IVF cycle... does that sound like it makes sense??

Is IVF covered by your insurance? - Unfortunately, my insurance only covers up to a $2,000 max per lifetime (IVF, IUI, etc) (just recently changed) so I will probably use it up before I even do IVF. Meds are not included in the $2,000 lifetime max so that is so far a good thing.

My first injectible cycle with 75 IU (stimmed days 3-9) was cancelled due to OHSS.
OHSS is something that I'm scared of so I am definitely going to talk to the doctor....maybe he wanted to increase my dosage because of my weight. I know that dosage can sometimes be determined on height and weight along with blood levels. He also wants me to go for bloodwork before I do this. I'm also not at the ideal weight for my height but not obese. So maybe he felt that because I had some weight on me that it would take more to stim?? Looks like I'm gonna have to ask him because I don't want to assume.

Thank you for sharing your experience with me. I will definitely take your advice and ask some more questions....I will ask them if I could take the smaller dosage first just to be on the safe side.

I am really hoping that I won't have to even do this at all but my records indicate that AF should be knocking on my door any minute now...

to us all!!

I'll keep you posted on how things go!!

Kim!
You found the !!!

Did they mean 600IU for the entire cycle or 600IU per day? Maybe I just read it wrong. 600IU per day is a lot! Check into it and keep me posted. That sucks about the insurance. I have no IVF coverage but I have 6 injectible cycles with back to back IUI's covered in full. All of my b/w and u/s are in full too. So, I can't complain. IVF here in NY runs about $13K...give or take a little. I have meds for an army stored away, so that should take the cost down by a few thousand...if we do IVF.

I hope this cycle is it for you.

Hi!

yea!!

I think in my original post I put 600IU a day but then when I researched it further I saw that it couldn't be because it was so high. I know it comes in 2 types of cartridges 300IU and 600IU so I'm gonna find out exactly how many days and how much I will be taking and let you know.

As far as I know the u/s and bloodwork is covered and most of the meds but the IUI and IVF only up to $2,000 per lifetime which sucks but I guess it's better than not having any at all so I won't overlook my blessings.

I'm keeping my for you this month!! I saw your post too and you really had us all fooled silly girl!!

As for me AF is here and I'm holding her hostage for now...
