Thrush?
This is a discussion on Thrush? within the Babydust Moms and Dads forums, part of the Parenting Babies & Toddlers category; Does anyone know what thrush on a baby looks like? I really think Cole has it.

Does anyone know what thrush on a baby looks like? I really think Cole has it.
So here's the whole story:
I brought Cole to the doctor yesterday for his 2 month checkup, which timing wise was perfect becuase he got super congested, was fussy and couldn't eat the night before. On top of that I noticed a white spot on the middle of his tongue. I wasn't really sure if the spot was from milk or something else.
At the doctor's appointment come to find out he has a double ear infection! My poor baby!! I had the doctor look at his tongue, too which now had 3 spots. The doctor said he didn't think it was thrush because it wasn't anywhere else in his mouth...but now this morning there are even more spots!
I want to call the doctor back, and I think I will, but do you think I'm being crazy?
What does thrush look like? All I can find are pictures of adults that have serious cases of it. Braiden never had it so I'm clueless!

I don't know anything about thrush Jaime, but a lot of white spots on the tongue sounds like a phone call to the doc no matter what. Don't worry about bugging them...there's a reason they make the big bucks! Hope Cole feels better soon!
Amy described it pretty clearly Veronique had it early on, it can be a hard thing to get rid of...my niece had it for months. It's probably wise to keep an eye on it very close and call the dr everday if you need to
Hey there. We *thought* (and were told wrongly by our midwife) that we had thrush when Anna was a month old. It turned out she didn't. The real difference between a milk coating and thrush is that thrush will also show up on the cheeks and inside their lips. Here's a pic of Anna's non-thrush, which turned out to just be a really coated tongue:
Also if you try a google images search for "baby thrush mouth" you'll turn up some pics of thrush in a baby's mouth. If I'd done that when I thought we had it, I might actually have some cute pictures of Anna during her third week with purple smeared all over her face and have spared us the evil grapeseed extract and the no sugar diet.
Hope the double ear infection clears up soon! Man, that's miserable enough without worrying about thrush.
The spots on the cheeks are a giveaway. Are all the spots on his tongue? I would try to call the dr and see what they say. Also, if he's on antibiotics for the ear infection, that could make thrush worse since it kills all the bacteria--good and bad. Perfect breading ground for yeast issues then. Hopefully it's not thrush and just some lovely milk coating on his tongue. I know both my girls had that. Hope the poor guy feels better soon!
SO Yesterday I was about to post telling you all that it was only milk and that I guess I am crazy.
But then this morning I woke up and noticed he has spots all over the insides of his cheeks and lips, as well as his tongue. So I was right...he does have thrush.
I just went and picked up the medicine for it, but I have another question: For those of you whose babies had thrush, how long did it take to clear up?
