Need answers (for a friend)

A member of one of my boards asked me (and some others) to post these questions in boards we frequent in hopes of helping her friend.

Did you take an antidepressant during pregnancy?
Which one?
For what period of time?
Were you in need of one but did not take it?
If so, why did you elect not to take it?
Were you on any antidepressant pre-pregnancy?
If so, which one?
Did the antidepressant taken during pregnancy help?
Do you believe there were any ill effects to you or your child(ren)?

Any other information you might care to share regarding antidepressant use during pregnancy would be appreciated as I have a friend who is struggling to decide whether or not to take Zoloft while pregnant. She is 26 weeks right now.

I *think* you can continue taking it, and if you are prone to depression it might be worth continuing otherwise you might suffer severe ppd....obviously I would consult my Dr or whoever prescribed the AD.

Did you take an antidepressant during pregnancy? I started weaning off of them when I found out I was pg.
Which one? I was on sertraline which is the generic for zoloft
For what period of time? I was on if for 7 onths before finding out I was pg
Were you in need of one but did not take it?
If so, why did you elect not to take it? Well I have been on and off them, but elected to not take them while pg or breastfeeding

Please pass along to your friend that PPD and depression are completely two different things. Your chances of PPD are not any higher if you have depression. Although I just read an article from Kaiser saying that you are prone to PPD if you have major depression, however I have not come across that in any other research and my psych(s) always said that you are prone to it because of depression. Even my two pychs at Kaiser said there is no relationship. So maybe you should just tell your friend to ask her psychiatrist whatthe newest thing is between depression and PPD.

I hope she gets the help and resources she needs.
