How did/do you get your baby to sleep?
Bryce seems to be leaving that glorious age where he falls asleep anytime, anywhere he needs it. And now I am having to work to get him to sleep (far less easy this time, with a busy 3 year old running around!). So I am wondering what has worked for you. We had a pretty elaborate swaddle/white noise/walk and bounce/carefully lay her down and pray routine with Hayden, and I just do not think that is feasible this time. So...help?

Re: How did/do you get your baby to sleep?
for the most part, julian nurses to sleep. sometimes he will fall asleep being held, but that's only if he's really tired and i prefer he not get to that point.
while he was a newbie, he slept really well in the swing even with ava playing in the same room. after a while, when he began to wake more easily, i have been nursing him to sleep, then putting him in the bedroom with the fan on for white noise and the door shut so ava's playing doesn't wake him. (and the monitor on.) it was tricky for a while when she was waking him up and i would get sooo frustrated. this seems to solve the problem for now.
good luck. you will find your groove.

Re: How did/do you get your baby to sleep?
With Isaac ,we swayed him until he was almost sleeping, otherwise he would not go down and whine and cry until he vomits (such a joy that was). Now with Carson all we had to do is lay him down. But we did have CIO moments where we knew he absolutely didn't need anything. So CIO worked great on him, unlike Isaac.

Re: How did/do you get your baby to sleep?
Most of the time, i nurse him and he is still awake. Since we are co-sleeping, i lay him down, and i am next to him. I rub his back, and sing to him. He will fall asleep if you talk/sing to him. Sometimes, that doesn't work, and then we rock him to sleep (my hubby is really good that that). That works well.
I try not to nurse him to sleep.

Re: How did/do you get your baby to sleep?
When Katelyn was younger - I would feed her, and just lay her down when I knew it was nap time. She would fall asleep on her own. She was always a very good sleeper. Now I just tell her to go to bed and i'll be up in a minute - she'll go brush her teeth, grab her things and sits on her bed and then I go up there and tuck her in and read her a story, or just 'chat' for a few minutes and then give kisses and she goes right to sleep. We did have moments that I had to walk around the house with her and bounce her (when she was around 5-6 months old) so she would go to sleep.. but I was pretty consistant in putting her down awake.

Re: How did/do you get your baby to sleep?
well with Camille I rocked/walked her and I promised myself I wouldn't do that again! too hard on my back.
I didn't get to do that with Vero..she had a mind of her own. She didn't want to be held it seems (from very early on)...once she started to squirm around and didn't seem to be confortable in any position, I started to put her wide awake in her crib and she fell asleep without crying, all on her own...still does and it still amazes me. That was my easy baby :-)
I rarely nursed to sleep (except in the middle of the night) I usually nursed as they woke up.

Re: How did/do you get your baby to sleep?
With Tim I fed him to sleep and rocked. I decided I'd not do that again this time (sometimes it took an hour!).
With Lydia, I wrapped and lay her down awake. She usually sticks her thumb in or I give her the paci and she'll rub her teddy on her face until she goes to sleep. If I don't wrap her, I'll hold her hand for a while until she stops wiggling.

Re: How did/do you get your baby to sleep?
With Savannah, there were times when I had to nurse AND rock/bounce her. She was the worst to get to sleep.
An exercise ball was the best thing to happen for us. I'd hold her close and bounce on the ball until she fell asleep. Unfortunately, for the first 6 months of her life I had to hold her for naps. As soon as she felt me put her down her eyes would pop open and I couldn't get her back to sleep. She HATED being swaddled, which I think would've been a huge help.
Around 6 months old, I'd have to bounce her to sleep (sometimes nursing at the same time) and then put her down and she'd start to wake up, so I'd have to nurse her back to sleep.
I don't know what I would've done had she been my second child. *eek!*

Re: How did/do you get your baby to sleep?
We used to lay Jory on our arm face down so the pressure was on his belly and we would rock him and do the long hard 'shhhhhhhhhhh'. Boy did we grow some arm muscles those months!

Re: How did/do you get your baby to sleep?
I nurse him once he's up from a nap but it usually puts him back to sleep. For naps he likes his bouncie.
I've been letting up on the swaddling for naps but at night it's the only thing that will settle him down if he's really tired.

Re: How did/do you get your baby to sleep?
Thanks very much for replying. Still looking for the magic button here. I need the thing that will get him to stay asleep, mainly! And that doesn't seem to exist! lol

Re: How did/do you get your baby to sleep?
Alana gets put into her bed awake for naps and bedtime. She actually gets mad now to be held to sleep. She will play for a little bit and then she'll be asleep. She did fuss sometimes, but I basically let her CIO. She was never hysterical or anything when I do it. And if she cried more than a few minutes I would go get her. But she's gotten to the point now that at 10am every morning she starts sucking her thumb and goes to sleep pretty fast once I place her in the crib for her morning nap.
She used to fall asleep in her crib. Sometimes Wayne will hold her to sleep at night because he wants to cuddle with her, but she fights him like crazy and then eventually she gives up and goes to sleep

Re: How did/do you get your baby to sleep?
That was supposed to be "She's used to falling asleep in her crib now"
 Sorry!
