Default Unsuccessful HSG-couldn't get thru cervix

Hi,

We have been trying to conceive for over a year. We are now working with our dr. to figure out what is going on. I was scheduled for my HSG today. My dr. was unable to perform the procedure so another dr. in her group did it. After several painful attempts, she was unable to get the tube through my cervix and had to stop the test. She did not leave me with much information and I was kind of rushed out of there so I am not reallly sure what this all means. During the procedure she kept asking me if I've had any cervical surgery. I have not. She asked if my periods were regular and they are. Otherwise, she didn't say too much other than that next month she'll give me some drug to soften the cervix and we'll try again. Has anyone had a similar experience? Is this a huge set back for us? I'm very freaked out by this all. Could this be the main cause of my infertility? Any info would greatly be appreciated. Thanks!

hello, i got the same problems like yours, I had my first HSG test in Feb, the doctor spent two hours on the test but they cant get through the cervix. And then I tried again in Jul, the dotor use already three different sets of equipment to help the tube getting in, but still failed.

I also freaked out by this, I originally having my first IUI in Aug, because of this, I am not sure if IUI is the best option for fertility.

Hey MCG,

What a co-incidence, my second HSG check is also done on 3 Jul 08!

I had the HSG test in June. My doctor had a difficult time putting the tube through my cervix as well. However, after several attempts it worked - they did prop a pillow under my butt to help it out. Your doctor could try that if the next time is the same. Well after all that and dye being injected several times - very painful - they couldn't tell me anything useful because they said the dye went in my veins and not in my tubes. Needless to say I cried leaving the hospital.
