Default TTC questions

Dh and I have been TTC for almost a year and a half. We found out this summer that my tubes were blocked and I had surgery in june. (it was pretty bad in there) My OB did not want to do Fertility drugs and wanted to wait and see if I could concieve on our own. I have and appointment in October. I am really nervous about the appointment. My problem (ob believes) is that my eggs never make it to the tubes, so she believes that she will rec. a fertility specialist and they will immediatly go to invetro. My Insurance does not cover IV (of course) and we are teachers so we dont have that kind of $. I am really frustrated and discouraged. What do I do??

Gosh I dont know what to say for you to do, will they not let you try Clomid or something like that first to get O'ing and know you are O'ing and then take the next step... why aren't they going to do cycle monitoring!? That would be the best way I think to see what is going on etc... We are hitting our 1 yr mark in 2 weeks so I can partially understand your frustration... I would ask about your other options first, do they know for sure you are O'ing?? If your Ob just "believes" that your eggs are not going to your tubes... what does she have to go on??? Just jumping right to IVF is pretty drastic in my mind! Good luck... I hope you find a good dr...

Amy,
Hi, I lurk here quite a bit and post at Injectables, and Femara. I would find a good Reproductive Endocronologist (RE) and get a second opinion. If they unblocked your tubes there should be some other options. I love my RE and should have gone to him at least a year earlier. I am also a teacher and our insurance doesn't pay for IVF either. We were able to find some good options that we are comfortable with.

Best of luck and lots of

Well I went to a reproductive specialist in my area and he did agree that even with the best tubal opening proceedure I could only hope for a 50% chance in comparison with those who have not had tubal sugery. (If this is not making since a person without reproductive issues has a 26% chance of concieving during ovulation each month...My chances of concieving are at best 13%) They are going to run another HSG to test exactly how well the surgery went. (Swelling should be down enough after 2 months to get a good read.) I am being placed on Clomid. If the HSG has pleasing results we are going to proceed with the clomid. IF they are not good I will have to decide to have surgery agian and begin agian or deside on IVF. The good news is that my Reproductive specialist says that IVF was created for people like me with tubal issues so my chances for conseption are good if all the other tests during ovulation are normal. (uteran tests) But agian that brings us to the cost.

I am trying to be positive and hoping for the best. That is really all that we can do at this time. My RS seems to say exactly what my OB was saying, so I dont feel so much like I was accomplishing nothing. I think the reason she kept allowing me to choose who to choose what I wanted to do was be cause I am such a type A personality. I have monitored and recorded my ovulation and attempts in detail. When I showed up at the RS office he was shocked with my cycle monitoring records. I was already doing almost exactly what they do to monitor ovulation. Anyway, I am rambling.

Thank you for the help. I was having such a rough week. I guess we all go through those.

Oh hon, it's so sad to hear about these situations. I did clomid for about 6 months. It was an easy drug to take and everyone has a mixed bag with the side effects though.
There are other drugs that do similar things to clomid. Right now we are on Follistim (injection), Lupron (because I respond to well to Follistim, also an injection) and Femara (pill). Femara does much the same thing as clomid but it doesn't hurt your CM, which clomid can do if you stay on it to long. I am telling you this so that you know more options, not to upset you.
I pray that you won't have to use any of these methods and you will get a on your own while you wait with your newly cleared tubes!!!!!
