Icon10 NEW and EXCITED!!

Hi everyone! I was very recently on the infertility site. Because 10 years ago, I had a very bad bacterial infection and was hospitalized for it. I was told that there was a 90% chance of tubal scarring and adhesions. For 10 years, I have believed that I could not have children (naturally). I was on BC pills for 14 years prior to this. I went off last March. I recently went to see an RE and yesterday had an HSG dye test done. Turns out my tubes are 100% clear and there are absolutely no adhesions or scarring. I am beside myself and I am still in shock. For 10 years, I believed I had no chance of naturally conceiving. Anyway, now I'm thinking, well, its been 12 months, can something else be wrong? My RE wants me to start Clomid next month. I dont think I want to go that route yet. I'm only 29. I think we'll give it another 6-12 months of good, old fashion trying before I start any meds. Anyone have any advice if I should start the drugs sooner?? Thanks for listening. I'm still celebrating!!

Hi Dana. I'm glad to hear that things are going your way. BUT.......... I don't think this particular forum is very active. You might want to try 6+ months and/or FM/OPK. Those boards are pretty busy - hope to see you there!

Dana,

If you aren't comfortable starting then don't. Although I would consider that you never know what might happen. You've waited a year. I waited about 8-9 months after going off bcps at age 33. I even knew that I'd need help, however, I never would have thought in a million years that it'd take longer than a few months or so, even on clomid. Now I'm getting old and my % of success drops even with ivf. Are your cycles regular? If not, I probably wouldn't wait too long.

Something you can do now is ask your doctor to run a panel of hormone tests. It may also be a good idea to have your dh get a semen analysis (the thorough one that gives you numbers!!!). Those things could help give you the answers you need to make a decision about your next steps.

I have a question regarding your infection. Did your doctor think it would only affect your tubes? Is it possible it could have affected other parts of your reproductive organs? If so, I'd consider asking for a lap so he/she can check them out.

Good luck!
