concerned husband here. wife and have been trying to conceive for about a year now come march. she just found out that she is not ovulating at all. nice huh. so she's pretty upset over that. she was on the patch for about 1-2 years and it just totally messed her system up. she's not "regular" at all. been to the doctors, etc....well my first question is the doctor has recommended clomid. and really confused about it because of all the side effects. any insight???.....i read about cyst on here and everything else, just scares me being the man and not having a clue how to keep my wife happy.
I can only tell you what Clomid did for me...I didn't experience a lot of side effects other than headaches. It did however, hyperstimulate my ovaries and produced 3 cysts. Just be sure that your wife is closely monitored while being on it. If I were monitored better they couldv'e take me off or reduced the dose and the cysts wouldn't have appeared.
Is her fertility doc or ob giving her the Rx? Also just as a warning, Clomid can make some women evil so just take it!

her obgyn doctor is giving her this. supposedly what they have told her is she will take it for 5 days then immediately go in for blood work to see if she is ovulating. then if not next month she'll take it for 5 days again, same thing for 3 months, if not by then ovulating they will move on to something else. but apparently the "only problem" persay is that she is not ovulating at all and they say this will fix it.
Hello concerend husband
First let me say that it is so nice that you are involved with your wife issues with ttc . My husband hasn't gone to the dre. woth me just had a s/a done.
Has she been checked for PCOS? they are just pearl strand like cysts on her overies. I have pcos and i am on medication for that. I am not "regular" either and I do not ovulate. I have to go to the dr friday morning to have blood work to see if i o'd. i took clomid for 5 days. i was told to take it at night before i went to bed so that i wouldn't really get the side effects.
some of the side effect for pcos is. weight gain, pimples on the jaw line, missing or non existing periods, facial hair. ther are others but i don't know all of them.
hope that helps and good luck to your wife and you

Along with the bloodword on CD 6 I would request a vaginal ultrasound to be sure that the follicles are not getting too big...in essence resulting in a cyst. Also if she does ovulate then they need to do an ultrasound to make sure that the follicle collapses(breaks and lets the egg loose). If the follicle doesn't collapse then the result is cysts.
Definitely take the Clomid at night so she sleeps through most of the symptoms. And Clomid is usually taken CD 5-9. What mg did they prescribe her?

not sure on the mg they are suggesting. she hasn't made her mind up yet. she's had stuff going on for like 16 days straight this month, then she quit for two days now its back again. she is so stressed, just wanting her body to be normal for once. should a girl of 27 years old be going thru this? its crazy. she is almost ready to just give up taking anything, she is taking something now that starts with a P that is supposed to make her regular. this is the third month and its not working if not getting worse. so dr. tells her to finish this up then next month well go to clomid if thats what she want. the problem is she is supposed to take it during days 5-9 or something like that and well the way her system is acting how is she to know when those days 5-9 begin or end. its crazy crazy. could she possibly ovulate on her own over time? are we just rushing things maybe should let her body run its course? we go to church regularly, and are faithful christians, so sometimes we ask ourselves are we messing with god and his timing, etc....i think we need to see a psychiatrisst.....
As I was reading your enteries I thought I wonder if she has Polycystic Ovary Syndrome. I had alot of the same problems your wife is having. I also took the provera to get my cycles. I took another fertility drug..femara for 4 mos and had weak ovulations. We just recently went to an RE and he diagnosed me w/ PCOS..this causes you to not ovulate...and as I understand there is help for this. You mentioned that her dr wants her to get her blood taken immediately after she takes the clomid...it typically is taken 7 days after ovulation to check progesterone wich lets you know if you ovulated.
Her body could ovulate on its own when she gets "regular" but there is always the question how long are you willing to wait? So many women have had such good luck with the fertility drugs...that I think it would be worth a try. But I would really have them check for PCOS.
I also know what you mean about "are we messing with God's plan?" I worry about that too...but I guess I try to think that if it's not in his plan it won't happen no matter what we do. Maybe his plan is for me to go through this and come out sronger to help someone else?!? Well good luck and tell your wife to hang in there..this is defenitly a rollercoster of emotions.
I knew poeple would help you out with ifo. Can i recommend a book for you and your wife to read, it's called "Taking Charge of your Fertility" it is very informative and you and your wife will like it. Also is her dr. very much into helping you? if he or she wants to just push meds on you like mine is you might want to find another dr. that is what i am doing. I wish you both the best of luck with a BFP soon. anyother concerns feel free to ask. Just keep your heads up and see what happens.
I read that she is 27 and you thought she wasa young to go through this, I just wanted to let you know that i am 26 and going through the same things.

the doctor seems to be really patient(no pun intended) with us, and told us to take our time for her to talk to me and see what path we wanted to take, etc...not pushing meds at all so thats cool. she also talked to her about PCOS, and said actually in her experience with this, that its a fancy word that usually sends up a red flag with your insurance company, and that she and other dr's use Clomid to treat this anyways. But that she is aware of it and the symptoms etc. My wife is somewhat in a better frame of mind now, its been a long week. I think she just needs to relieve some stress if you know what im sayin
I am willing to do whatever it takes to help her out. get my goods checked, take meds, whatever....im behind her and beside her thru all of this. thats why I am trying to do research and get knowledgeable about all of this woman stuff...lol. So you all are helping me out and I appreciate it.
Her first full flow of her menstrual cycle would be cycle day 1. So she would count to CD 5 and start taking Clomid. Alot of us are under 30 and having the same problems. You guys are not alone.

Hi Husband,
I totally understand where you are. My husband and I were there. First, go to a fertility doctor. Also known as a 'Reproductive Endocrinologist'. They are the real experts and while your current doc may have some infertility knowledge they are usually not the experts. My OB told me that I was too young to have these problems, well obviously he was wrong.
After seeing the RE we both went through a battery of tests, HSG, Sperm Count, Blood work ,etc. We discovered that not only was I not ovulating but my husband had sperm issues. The RE said that on our own our chances of conceiving were almost 0%. So we went ahead with treatment. I had surgery for endometriosis, a d&c, and ovarian drilling. Then I took Femara and HcG trigger shot (which forces your body to ovulate with in 36 hours) then we did intra-uterine insemination. I'm now 13 weeks pregnant. My husband and I also wondered about God's timing. But we knew that it was his will for us to have kids and we believe God gave us medicine to be used. If it means anything my husband has been a minister for 15 years so I'm sure he had the same thoughts as you.
Sometimes if we want something, we have to take control and do what we know is best. I wish you the best and I pray that you and your wife are holding a little one soon.

WELLLLL, were having issues again. She finally got regular for a couple of months, she took an over the counter ovulation tester and it said that she was still not ovulating. So she went ahead and got her clomid presc filled. So all this week she has been "spotting" and not really having her all out "you know you know". So she calls her doctor and doctor tells her that she should count the first day she was spotting as day one, and count from there. But last time she did that with the provera(spelling) it got her body so screwed up it was terrible. So she has been on message boards and talking to people and they are giving her advice as to not start counting her first day until her "real all out" time has come. what are your alls suggestions????
sorry im not gonna be much help cuz im goin through similar problems. tell her to go with her gut feeling. that has really helpd me not doubt myself. if she feels its better to start the day it comes full on..then! if not then its the other way..!! good luck and please keep us posted.
