Default how many days on follistim?

Hello ladis,

I am new to this forum. A little about me - I am 38 and live in Los Angeles and have been trying to conceive for a year. My DH had a vasectomy reversal Dec 06 and has a good sperm count now. Because of my age and the fact that I haven't gotten pregnant I was reffered to an infertility clinic and am now starting iui treatments.

I'm posting because I'm kind of freaking out about something my RE just told me.
I've only been on Follistim 5 days and am worried because my RE wants me to do the Novarel "trigger" shot tomorrow. This means I would ovulate on day 9. Is it normal for someone to be on Follistim for such a short time? He said he saw 4-5 good follicles.

I would love to hear all of your opinions on this. It seems so early.

I don't really know what kinda trigger shot that is. The only one I've heard my doctor talk about it the HCG shot. I know they recommend the shot to help with the releasing of the eggs. I've only had at the most two follicles so 4-5 would freak me out a bit.

I say go for it if they are recommending it. Maybe they think they all won't release is you don't get the shot. The more follicles that release the better your chances at this age. I'm 37 so I can relate to the time crunch knocking on your door. It adds even more stress to the equation.

Good luck!!
