Can anyone tell me where a RE is in or around Hickory NC besides Charlotte or Raliegh? I need something closer to home. Also can anyone tell me about the IUI process? and How many days do they do the process in a row?

Hi! I'm in the Raleigh area and go to Duke and I know that's no help to you but...In Greensboro there's the Center for Gynecology & Fertility. I know that's not super close but it may be feasible. And how about http://www.gvobgyn.com/contact.htm.

In Hickory there is http://www.awomansview.com/infert.htm. They may be able to tell you who they refer folks too.

Lastly, while a pain the neck, here's another option. Go to Charlotte or to Duke or UNC (I go to Duke) for the intial eval and the set up. Then, you can get your meds and have your doc at home do the insemination (if they're willing). All of it can be taken care of in Hickory except for the initial eval.

My husband lives in Maryland M-F. We're getting ready to do IUI. We've already made arrangements that if Mohammed can't come to the mountain, this mountain shall have to go to Mohammed. So, we've selected a clinic so that I can do my shots and all here, then give myself the trigger and two days later go to that clinic and have them do the insemination. Fun huh?

As for the IUI, i'm still learning myself. But Michelle is right. The ladies at the IUI forum are amazing. They can give you all the info you want and then some! And they're super nice!

Hi, I am on the IUI board and I live in Hickory, NC. I am doing injectables in Sept., but not IUI this time. I have had an IUI there though. I go to Catawba Women's Center and I see Dr. Dufour. Catawba Women's Center is the best in town!! I have been with them (while in NC) since I was 18. They got me pregnant with dd using clomid and they were great during pregnancy and AWESOME for the delivery!! Dr. Dufour is the IF Specialist there, but he does regular ob/gyn stuff too. His nurse is Amber and she is GREAT! I call her all the time just to ask questions. If you want to talk to someone there, call and ask to speak with Amber and tell her that I (Kelly Hefner) referred you. The number there is 828-322-4140.

Let me know what happens!

OH, the IUI is simple. Your dh will give the sample (has to be sterile so no pulling out or bj's), you take it in with you and you get ready like you would get ready for a pap. Sometimes it's uncomfortable and sometimes you don't feel a thing. They open you up with the speculum (just like they would with a pap smear), then the thread a small cathater up into your cervix and they shoot the sperm in there and you are done. They make you lay there for about 10 minutes before you can get up. I had some spotting and cramping, but nothing major. You can take Pamprin or something before hand if you want (I didn't though). It will take about an hour cause they have to wash the sperm and stuff before they take you back for the IUI. That's it.

As for the process it depends on the Doc. My RE does one before ovulation and one after (usually with the same sample) to make sure you get plenty of opportunity!!!

Thank you all for the information it has been very helpful, I appreciate all your support and encouragement. Kelly do they do the IUI and everything there at the woman's center? I would really like to go somewhere close so that if there is any problems I can get there quickly. I wish all of you good luck and I pray for us all in hopes that all of us get our bundle of joy soon.
