Default newbie to babywearing

new to this forum . . .

due in June with our 3rd . . . . we have an 11 yr old and one who will be 3 at the time of the new babe's arrival

looking for your input on the different styles of babywearing gear

I am a breastfeeder, and want to be able to try bf'ing with the bw sling/pouch (whatever)

I also plan on using the sling/pouch quite a bit during the day, so comfort is of the utmost concern

I just dont want to go out and start experimenting (too costly!!!!) and thought I'd check here first to see what you girls think??

thanks! (i'm also interesting in just making my own - - i sew avidly, but have the same issue, don't want to invest alot on this either until I have some feedback as to the pros/cons to the different types out there)

Welcome to the board Naomi!! I'm Jami and I'm expecting a baby in July so not too far behind you My baby is 10.5 months old and I have a ring sling. I really hate it though and I'm getting a pouch made for me to see if I like that better. similar to that at www.hotslings.com How big is your 3 yr old? (weight wise) with a ring sling you can sling a toddler up to 35lbs I think (or is it 45lbs?)

that said the kind of sling I or anyone else likes isn't neccessarily going to be the sling you and your baby likes. If you have any stores that sell slings in them I suggest you go try them out and see which ones you like best good luck!

Welcome!!!! We are happy to have you here.

Yeah, we all like different kind of slings. And our babies like different kind of slings too.
You can check out the reviews of slings here.
http://www.thebabywearer.com/
You have to be a member though.

I personally love, love, love the pouch style slings becuase it is very easy to put on the baby and get him/her out. It is great when the baby is fussying and wants to be picked up right away. It is pretty comfortable for me too. I also nurse my baby in it too and nobody noticed.

We are looking forward for getting to know you.

Get a Moby!! For real, it is the BEST way to wear a newborn..plus have 2 free hands! I don't like slings for that reasons b/c I feel they aren't totally in there when I have to chase after my older children. But w/ a wrap they are so snug and secure you can totally chase and grab those little ones! Plus I can do laundry, clean, and even pick up and diaper my older ones while having her sleeping away in her wrap. I was told by many babywearing expert mamas to get one...and I am SOOOO glad I did (it was worth every penny and then some for how it has helped us out!) plus you can bf in it easily and wear them (as a newborn) in many different ways, unlike a sling. And it does NOT ever hurt your back. I found w/ a sling it would hurt after a while, but not w/ a wrap b/c it distributes the baby's weight evenly across your back. I wear her for HOURS and it doesn't even phase me...and or her!
here's the link:

I have a moby D b/c I like the panel of fabric in the middle, keeps them more snug and secure, plus our particular one has fleece and we live in Seattle so it's working great for the chilly weather)

good luck! and give a wrap a try, they are easy to learn and use...I learned really quick and was new to babywearing pretty much. I put it on at the house so all I do is load her in when we get where we're going
