New to this sling-thing - help!!!
Hi Mommas!
I am trying out this sling-thing.... I am new to this as my daughter never liked being held until now... go figure, she waits a year to get cuddly!
I bought a HotSling as recommended by the ladies at another board, but I am not sure the fit is right. When my DDs bottom is in the sling, it doesn't offer her ANY back support... I feel like (and I think she does too) she is going to fall out of it backwards. What am I doing wrong?
I've been eyeing those Zolowear slings that cost an arm and a leg, but thingking, maybe... they are adjustable aren't they?
Thanks for any suggestions!

Re: New to this sling-thing - help!!!
Are you following me?
Zolos are an adjustable ring sling. There are a ton of adjustable ring slings out there. If you get an open tail ring sling you can adjust the rails separately, so you can get the fit much better and more support for baby so that you can actually be hands free.
I haven't tried a pouch. I'm afraid of not being able to adjust it, so I probably won't get one at all.
Before you get a Zolo, check out your local childrens consignment shops. I got a brand new OTSBH (that I hate) for $4.

Well, I've been spotted... it's no fun when you get caught!
I have my eye on a Zolo, but not sure how DH is going to feel about $150! Yowzers! They are soooo pretty though...
I emailed Kristen and she had a suggestion from her site, but I can't get into it right now. So, I must exercise patience!
I have a credit at a children's consignment shop... that's a great idea! I';; have to check them out! Thanks!

Hmm your site is adorable! Maybe we could arrange for a swap of some sort. Diapers for a sling? If you're interested email me at klbaker@dcr.net. :-D

Re: New to this sling-thing - help!!!
I own both a Hotsling and a Zolo. The size determins the length of the sling not the width. The Hotsling is standard width for a pouch sling. What position are you trying to do? It sounds like a hip carry or cuddle carry? (correct me if I'm wrong) When her bottom is in the sling the edge should fit right under her knees and then take the top edge and pull it up as far as you can. When the fabric is spread out correctly it should be nice and snug against her back. If you can take a picture I can help even more. I'm having a hard time pictureing exactly what you are talking about. If you are talking about a cuddle carry put her head towards the side thats on your shoulder and not towards the seam side.
As far as a Zolo, they are beautiful. I have to say they are my favorite slings (besides my own slings lol).

Re: New to this sling-thing - help!!!
I have a Hotsling and I comfortably carry my DS who is 5 months old in a hip carry all the time. You have to do what Kristine says, and keep the edge of the sling under the knees, and pull the excess material up around the child.
Like this
As you can see, I am not supporting him at all, he is just sitting in the sling, with my hand resting in his bottom.

Sandi, said with love... does the sling scrunched up like that on your neck make it awkward feeling? I love my Hotsling (yours is beautiful) but I need it spread out for it to be comfy for me. Heres mine:

Re: New to this sling-thing - help!!!
Normally, I do spread it out. I had JUST put him in there, turned around, and DH wanted to take the pic, so I wasn't fully adjusted yet!
