looking for a different sling!
I have a ring sling and I hate it. It feels so loose all the time and it's a pain in the rear to get my son in it from the day I got it. I'm looking for something different for this baby as I didn't like the ring sling as much as I'd hoped.
I have heard good things about hotslings...anyone have any experience with these?

Re: looking for a different sling!
I have a new native style sling made by a wahm. It's similar to the hotsling. It definitely sounds like you'd be happier with a pouch type carrier like new native or hotsling. You could also try a mei tai, that's what I'm dying to try out right now. Also, tastes with sling vary a LOT, in a very short time span. I hated my new native sling when I first started using it, it felt too loose and it looked like it was squishing my newborn. I also wasn't hugely fond of my ring sling because the fabric seemed too thin, I couldn't ever seem to get it tight enough and Katrina cried when it felt tight enough to me. I also have a padded ring sling, called an over the shoulder baby holder. At first I hated IT because it was so bulky and heavy and confining.
With repeated use, however, I came to enjoy all three slings. The new native sling is my favorite for just sticking the baby in and going somewhere, the ring sling is my favorite for trying out new carries and for carrying Katrina when she's asleep, and I even like the padded otsbh when it's cold outside or I'm tired and want to be snuggled in the thick padding. I cannot stress enough how much repeated first hand use with the sling really does help make it easier, more natural, more fun, and more comfortable! You'd be surprised that how experimentation can yeild such wonderful results.
All that said, hotslings and new natives and puch slings in general are great. they are comfy for you and baby, super easy to use, and I could sling my 10 pound infant as easily as my 38 pound toddler with the same sling. I find the pouch sling to be the easiest to use, but it took a lot of getting used to. good luck!

Re: looking for a different sling!
I think i'm gonna go with the hotsling. I got my ring sling when Caleb was 10 wks old. I use it because i love wearing him but i just hate it.

Re: looking for a different sling!
Did you get your hotsling?
I have one and love it. I think this will be one of my favorite slings. Good thing about it is you can put your baby in it very quickly and easily. It is pretty comfy for the baby too.
I am also thinking about making my own pouch style sling too. Let me know if you wanna try it out.

Re: looking for a different sling!
I know what you mean about slings being expensive...! I want to try out all kind of slings, but they really are expensive... So I can't right now. And even if we had little bit of money, I still have to sort of get my husband's agreement on getting them... :p
But you know, there are so many different kind of carriers, and just because we have one, it does not necessary mean it works fine in all occassion, you know.
I want to help you out!
I pmd you.

Re: looking for a different sling!
Hi, I'm new here, but I thought I'd chime in. I'm an avid BW'er. I'm currently a nanny and I wear my 16 month old charge, and have done so since she was 5 months old. Where in Nebraska do you live, if you don't mind me asking? I was wondering b/c I live in Omaha, and my friend (who is also a nanny) and I have all SORTS of different carriers that we would be willing to let you try out and/or borrow if you are near by. If you are looking into a Hotsling, I have to also recommend a Peanut Shell. They are SOOOOO comfy!! I have two of them, and I just love them!! You could try one of those out. I also have a bunch of different Mei Tai's, some I have purchased and quite a few I have made myself. My friend has some wraps also. If you live nearby, just let me know and we can possibly set up a playdate or something.
