Default How do I nurse Wil in the sling?!

I cannot figure this out. My son is kind of big for 5 months old, 29" long and 19 pounds...that was a few weeks ago, too! Anyways, I try to put him in my pouch sling in the cradle position to nurse and he is totally smushed. Someone told me to leave his legs hanging out but I dont understand how...like, which side of the ouch do his legs go? Is this comfortable enough that he can fall asleep? I wish these websites would have more pictures with the instructions!

Thanks for any advice!

I don't have a pouch, but with my sling, Haley sleeps and nurses fine. She lies down with her feet hanging out on side of the sling against me. So, she's kind of doing a C against me. I'm not sure if pouches work the same way though. And it might be different because she's 9 months and 15 pounds...

Sorry, I probably didn't help you at all!!!

I dont know if this will help because its not a pouch its and adjustable pouch (with rings). I was breastfeeding my daughter in it. I would pull her legs out the side nearst me but make sure her bottom up to her knees was still in it. Try to imagine starting in a hip carry and then laying her down to the side. You can also do a kinda hip/cuddle carry for babies who like to nurse in a more verticle position. I used that hold for shopping and nursing. Heres a picture of us nursing with her laying down. I personally like nursing more in a ring slign type sling because you can snug it up but a well sized pouch can work just as well. Goodluck!

I have been wondering too! But, I haven't heard of pulling the legs out. I bought the sling so I could nurse him in it, and havent figured it out. My J will be 6 months old next week, and is on the biggish side (but not as big as your guy) and we use a pouch as well.

Well, we've been practicing and it's still ackward but I'm going to keep trying. Tomorrow I really want to go to a big neighborhood garage sale and I would love to be able to stay for longer than an hour... if I could nurse Wil and then he could afll asleep in the sling... I'll let you guys know how it goes! He's not too accepting of new things and places...or the carseat...or anyone else holding him...
