Default hotsling questions

I just got a hotsling and a lady gave me a demo and i think ive got it down pretty well i just have a few questions. Hopefully someone uses one alot and can answer these for me.
My son is just 5 weeks old so i put him in there cradle style. I know i have the correct size, but it feels like the way he is laying that the sling sits low on my shoulder. Q- is it ok to fold/tuck the fabric over my shoulder and upper arm in half so that it is more on top of my shoulder?
I have looked at alot of pictures of ppl using this sling, and i know that the pads are for the legs once they drop out the bottom...Q-does it matter in a tucked in infant where the pads are?
thanks in advance, im still getting used to wearing him, and he is doing really well with me "stuffing" stuffing him in the thing...lol

It is okay to fold the shoulder over. The guidelines for sling wearing are just that - guidelines. They aren't hard and fast rules, and you can do a lot of tweaking to make the sling fit you and fit your baby perfectly. A lot of sites recommend you flip the shoulder to get a snugger fit, but I've never had very good luck flipping it and it still being smooth, so sometimes I fold the shoulder in half so it hangs a little better for me. My pouch isn't a hotsling, it's a WAHM-made new native style pouch, and it doesn't have any padding so I can't help you on that one from experience, but in my opinion, the padding shouldn't matter in cradle-carry, and you can put it however you'd like, so long as the baby is securely in the pouch. It's great that your little one is enjoying the sling so much. I forgot my sling when we went to the store last night and I was so sad about it! DH said he would carry the baby for me, but I said that wasn't the point! I like to have her cuddled in the sling with me.

Happy Babywearing!

Congrats on your purchase on your new sling!
Like Quisalas said, it's okay to fold it. As for leg padding, when you carry your baby in cradle carry, it is suppose to come outside (not towards you), but it does not really matter where it goes.
