PM me if you would like to send slings/carriers to me directly. My aunt works for fedex and she can get like a charitable rate to ship for katrina victums. (I can't get the rate for you to ship to me but will be getting the rate when I collect the bulk and she takes thme to her fedex home office)

Hey, moms! Let's see what we can do to help the littlest victims of Katrina! Here is a forwarded post.

You can send carriers to me:

Jennifer Roop

1703 S. Detroit Ave.

Tulsa, OK 74120

or to our Houston contact:

Rega Waggett

228 West Cowan Drive

Houston, TX 77007

My name is Jennifer Roop, owner of Blue Sky baby Slings, and I need your help!

I am organizing an effort in my community and other communities to get as many donations of gently used Snugli/Bjorn carriers from parents that have babies that have outgrown their carriers or just don't use them to send to the displaced families with babies from Katrina.

My goal is to have enough carriers to these parents of small infants so that they don't have to worry about their babies as much, and it is safer for parents to wear the baby than to just have it lying about. These families have nothing – and keeping babies off the ground during clean-up efforts will be a huge problem.

I have a contact person in Houston who is helping me coordinate this effort with distribution, and finding a local Houston church or organization to help ge the carriers to families who need them. I'm focusing on the Houston Astrodome to send these carriers to, as Mississippi and Louisiana seem like a logistical nightmare, and at this point completely unsafe.

You can help by organizing a donation in your community.

Here are some examples of how you can get donations of carriers:

- contact all your local TV stations and tell them you are looking to find a way to get a large number of carriers. Tell them about babywearing - or organize in your parenting groups to do this. This is the fastest easiest way to get the message out to a large number of people.

- Post to your Freecycle boards to ask for baby carriers. Find the one in your area by going to: http://groups.yahoo.com/ and type in "freecycle and your town". Gather whatever carriers people donate and send them to either me or my Houston Momma contact (email me or call me)

- Take $20 and go to your local Salvation Army or consignment store and buy all they have. Again send them to me or my Houston Momma (email me for our addresses)

Again, feel free to call me 918-583-1844 if you'd like to help further.

Thank you so much!

Jennifer Roop
