Success Stories

Hi, all!
I thought it would be nice to share success stories from all who tried the NCSS as an encouragement to those who need them. So, here goes mine...

What my life was like when I bought the NCSS:
My DD was 7 mo and she was co-sleeping and BFing. She used to sleep in her crib before that, but she woke up 7-8 times a night, that I decided to bring her into our bed. Even though we co-slept, she woke up every 3 hours or I woke up frequently being sore from sleeping in a strange position. I nursed her back to sleep every time she woke up. She was also a bad napper and slept for 45 min at the most.

Where I started:
I started working on naps first. I did exactly what EP says to do to lengthen naps. I introduced a solid nap routine, and waited outside my DD's room for the first sign of arousal (around 30-40 min into her nap). As soon as I heard my DD stir, I entered her room quietly and patted or nursed her back to sleep before she fully awakened.

The results:
EP's method for improving naps worked wonders for us! It took exactly 14 days to see the results. On the 14th day, my DD took a 2 hr naps for the first time! Sometimes it was a bit shorter, and other times she took longer naps. But ever since then, she has been a pretty good napper.

The challenges:
Good nap is supposed to bring good night time sleep. But this didn't really happen to us. My DD was 12 mo when she started to sleep through the night (she slept through the night for two whole weeks, then resorted back to her old self for almost two months, then she is now a good sleeper)

My thoughts:
It took me 5+ months working on my DD's sleep using the ideas from the NCSS. It was a hard 5 months, but I am so glad I stuck with it. I stopped BFing DD at 11 mo, she started taking one nap instead of two, and began to understand the words "night-night" around the same time. Maybe one (or all) of these factors contributed to her sleeping better at night, but I can't tell what really made her sleep better. Good luck and best wishes to all you moms out there!
