Default Replacing boob with binky--anyone do it?

Hi all, another question I have is that I'm wondering if any of you unlatch your baby from your breast and then replace it with the pacifier when your baby roots? I am a co-sleeping, breastfeeding mama and I have the exact same problem going on that Elizabeth Pantley did when she went out to research a solution. I have been doing the unlatch-replace-with-binky routine way before I got the NCSS book. I've tried to do the Gentle Removal and not replace with the paci but I honestly don't have the patience after 5 or 6 tries, so I just stick the binky in there. The only difference now is that since I've read the book I'm trying to stay awake and do it right after he falls asleep instead of at random times when I wake up with him still attached to my boob. Sometimes it works and sometimes he's awake 2-3 minutes later. I'm just wondering what your opinions are on this?

TIA,
Margaret

Hi Margaret, this is Brandy again :-). I do this too, although I'm not co-sleeping, so I pop it in her mouth when she starts popping off the boob at night. I haven't had any success with the PPO, as instead of slowing down, my dd starts popping off. I know EP suggests not using the pacifier, but it's what's working right now, so we're going with it. It works pretty well, sometimes we have to go in and replace it mid-sleep-cycle, but even that's getting better, she's starting to be able to find it herself. I think if it works, keep using it!

Thanks Brandy. Glad to hear I'm not the only one modifying the PPO. It's what's working for us *most* of the time, so I think we'll stick with it.
