Default How to deal with time difference?

Hello,

My 10 month old's sleeping has greatly improved. We are now working on better naptime sleeping. We are planning to travel to Vancouver for a week, where there will be a 3 hour time difference, and my worry is that his sleeping will be affected, and we will have to start working on it again when we get back. We have worked so hard on getting him to sleep most of the night through, that I don't think I have the energy to start working on it again when we get back. Is there anything I can do to make the time change transition easier for him, without too much negative effect on his sleeping? Has anyone travelled with their baby to a different time zone, and how did you deal with this?

Thanks very much
Evelyn

Hi! Great to hear the sleep has improved!

THere are 2 options:

If I understand correctly, you are only going for a week, right? I'm thinking if you don't want to disrupt his sleep, then put her to bed when he would normally go to bed... so for example if he goes to bed at 7pm, put him to bed at 10pm Vancouver time because it won't be any different for him... of course I guess that would mean he'd wake up at 4am which isn't so fun but that is the only way I can think to keep everything the same.

The other option is to put him to bed when you want him to go to bed, but he may not want to because he'll feel like it's 4pm... and no matter what time you put her to bed he may wake up at 4am anyway... travel can really throw them off, especially with different activities going on because it's a holiday, and being in different surroundings...

Hopefully his sleep isn't too disrupted... it's hard because jet lag affects everyone, so it's hard to deal with... let us know what happens!
