Default Getting up in the night

I have a 4 month old baby who we just started the No-Cry Sleep Solution with 3 nights ago - I was getting up with him almost every 1 1/2-2 hrs and nursing previously. Now my husband is getting up with him and soothing him back to sleep as outlined in the book ... here is how it's going and I'm wondering if we're doing it right:
Baby goes to bed around 8:30 pm - gets up and nurses around 11:30 pm
If he gets up before 4:30 am then husband gets up and soothes (takes about 10 min).
If he gets up around 4:30 of after, then I get up and nurse him (but am just automatically doing this)
Any time he gets up in between that and 7:00, then my husband gets up and soothes.
Should we be trying the soothing all the time and only nursing if it doesn't work?
I'm just uncertain as to when he might change things himself or if he will. I know that we're supposed to eventually be able to do less and less to soothe him (ie. using just the key words instead of the picking up, rocking, and key words combo)
But will he start waking up less on his own?
I just want to make sure I get this right so any advice is appreciated!
Thanks!

Hi! Go ahead and nurse him... at that age, babies do still need to nurse in the night. They might have one skipped feed (equivalent of sleeping 5 hours which actually the definition of "sleeping through the night") but other than that, it's good to go with seeing if they are hungry.

I think what you are trying is good... let us know what happens!
