Icon5 Waterproofing diaper covers?

(cross-posted in BIJuly 2006 as well)

Hi everyone, I need some help! Arrow has been leaking through his clothes A LOT lately. I just called the diaper service and had them go up a size in the diapers that they are sending, but I think maybe that the diaper covers are part of the problem. We use LiteWraps, and they are usually great, but most of these have been around since Z was a baby, and it seems like all of the sudden, poof - their waterproofness is gone (even though we've been using these same covers for Arrow for months).

I don't want to have to buy a whole new set of diaper covers... does anyone know if there is a way to re-waterproof these covers? They are polyester outside and polyurethane inside. I know that with wool you can use lanolin... any ideas with these?

Thanks in advance!

I've heard you can buy waterproofing spray in stores that have camping gear.

Thanks Kristal. I've seen that too, but wasn't sure it would be safe next to a baby's bottom!

People on another CD'ing board I frequent swear by it. I'm sure it doesn't work as good as a new cover and has to be reapplied every few weeks

I have heard of people using this as well to re-waterproof the pul on covers, pocket diapers, and aios. I've never used it myself though, so I don't have any first hand experience to share.

I've JUST heard that you shouldn't wash the covers with every wash cycle, just hand-wash because maybe it's wearing them out before their time. Also, you can pop 'em in the dryer every 6 weeks or so on medium heat to help seal-up the PUL, which is what I assume your diaper covers are made of. HTH!! GL girlie! ;o)
