Icon10 Hi!!

Hi!

I'm Abbie (used to be AbbieLynn84). I'm a part time SAHM - I work in a One-Hour Photo Lab Friday-Sunday. Our daughter, Cara, is 4 1/2 months old, and she's exclusively CD'd.

I never set out to be an unconventional mom. I didn't know about Attachment Parenting until we were already doing it. I figured I'd do the regular stuff - breastfeed, crib, Pampers, stroller, etc. While I was pregnant a fellow mom on the DIJanuary 08 board mentioned cloth diapering, and I became very interested in it, and here we are! My daughter is breast fed and cloth diapered. We co-sleep and baby-wear. I wouldn't change a thing.

We set out to use FBs and I bought 1/2 infant 4x6x4, 1/2 infant 4x8x4, and 1/2 Large Regulars (burpcloth purposes). I got a few covers just in case. Later I got a bG 1size and I LOVE them. Don't really like the position of the pocket slat, but they hold in the pees and the doods. So now I don't really use my FBs very much, just the other two. I can't wait to buy more diapers! I browse dipes more often that regular clothes. Right now I am shopping for a good deal on Unbleached Indian PFs and maybe even trying out some hemp pfs. I definitely want more Thirsties covers though

I've had a few questions along the way, and didn't know where to go to ask. But now I do!

I hope this board is really active - I love diaper talk!

So here are a couple questions I had.

I was wondering if anyone has tips for dyeing prefolds? Would you use them on baby still? I am needing another creative project to do, and I don't have a sewing machine so I cannot do embellishments.

And I'd also appreciate any advice anyone can give me on dealing with a situation that I am having. My MIL (who I can't stand) has been trying to undermine our choices for Cara since I was pregnant. We BF - she signs up for formula samples and buys cans of formula. We CD - she buys us Pampers. She insisted on having a bath and diaper shower for me! Thank goodness she doesn't have any friends so the ball never got rolling on that one. She keeps wanting to get us diapers, when our baby has used one bag of Pampers in almost 5 months. The other day she bought a can of formula. What's worse is she doesn't work. She wastes my GFIL's money on these things that will get no use. She brings it up every time we talk to her and I want to nip it in the bud. Any ideas?

Why thank you!
Looking out the window at those diapers on the line just made me smile. I seriously stared at them out the window, so I bought I tripod and tried it out! I LOVE that picture. Just makes me so happy. . .

That is a great picture!

I'm new here too in fact I haven't even said hi yet

My son is 14 months old and we just started CD'ing. I am just barely starting out though and still have so much to learn, but dang it's fun!

That sucks about your MIL. Have you told her to back off!? I get comments every now and then because our son sleeps in our room, sometimes in his own space sometimes in ours and my MIL bought us a crib that we don't use. I also got a lot of heat over not feeding him early on, we didn't even try solids until he was 8 months old and I actually had family members tell me that he needed the nutrition, that BM wasn't enough. Ha! But my MIL is surprisingly on board with CD'ing, she even offered to pay for a diaper service for me. Too bad there isn't one where I live. I kind of like doing them myself anyway.

I hope we can see some more action here, I was excited to find this board, I only know one other mama who CD's and nobody else seems to understand the obsession.

Anyway, even though I'm a newbie I thought I'd toss you a welcome too

Hello and welcome

I think we share the same MIL Although I'd say all our battles have long since been fought and are over and done with. When I had my 1st 8 years ago it was war. Every choice I made she vigorously pushed to do the opposite. She even dumped a bottle of EBM and replaced it with cows milk and fed it to my 8 month old (with gut problems). *shudder* Anyway, I just stood my ground and never let her see me sweat Now she sees that although some of my choices may have been different than hers, it doesn't mean that my choices (or hers) were wrong because I'm having a lot of success raising 4 great boys right now. Just calmly stand your ground, she'll respect you for it in the end. And say thanks when she wastes her $$ on formula and pampers then donate them to a shelter or something when she leaves

As for the PF's. I know it's possible to do some amazing things with embellishing PF's. I've never dyed but I have sewn strips of decorative fabrics and they look SOOOO nice when I'm done (if you do this and use a snappy, cut a snappi hole in the decorative fabric or use snappy friendly fabric ). If you want to dye, I'd wait until you get some good solid advice from someone who's done it a few times before. I know there are real tricks to it and some dyes are better than others.

Abbie, I've been doing this about 3 weeks and I like the Thirsties wraps a lot too. I have one hemparoo prefold (that I got used on Diaperswappers.com) and it rocks! I want to find more... We do a combination of prefolds (mostly for the 5 month old) and pockets (more for the 20-month old) and I'm constantly trying new things right now. The BG one-size diapers are really cool, but they barely fit my 30-lb, short-ish little boy. We have a Haute Pocket coming and we're trying out different types of fitteds. Nice to meet you, sorry your MIL isn't supportive! I don't know if my in-laws know we're CD-ing yet. They did it with their kids, (out of necessity) so I don't see them being too down on it. My mom thinks I'm a little weird for being so excited about it, but she also did it with her first 2.5 kids. I keep telling her it's so different now in some ways!
