i think that i am going to try to take a stab at making some diapers in the near future. can you PUL your fabric that you have on hand? i have some super cute prints that would look great as the diaper outer.
thanks!

Re: can you PUL your own fabric?
I found a great fabric that Hospitals use to make waterproof sheets & pillowcases. It's very light, doesn't feel like plastic, breathable and easy to work with. I pick a printed fabric I like and just make a lining or backing with this waterproof fabric. It doesn't add bulk & washes REALLY well.
I found it at fabric land. I'm in Ontario, Canada (not sure where you are??) and it was about $20 a yard but it's a WIDE yard. I think I got about 6 diapers, a small wet bag and a waterproof bib out of it.

Re: can you PUL your own fabric?
you can send fabric to fabrite to be PUL'd
but it has to be 50 yard increments and the final price is about $5.50/yard
you can also join yahoo groups co-ops in order to send a few yards in and get past the 50 yard requirement.

Hi there - found this thread via Google. I was also wondering about PULing your own fabric, but now am curious about this fabric you bought at Fabricland. I'm in Alberta and that's the only fabric store we have too. Anyway, is it called V-Care? Only comes in white, quite supple and not plasticky feeling at all? I made a wetbag lined with this, and it sometimes seems to wick a little. Have you had this at all? Thanks!

Re: can you PUL your own fabric?
It will wick with heavy wetting and need to be changed frequently. But I've also used a hidden layer of PUL w/ a cotton print and it wicks too. When I make diapers w/ it they are more for fun, not our every-day work horse diaper. So only something he wears for 2 hours tops at a time. I haven't had much trouble w/ the wet bags wicking but maybe it's b/c I use pockets and kind of fold the pocket over on itself before it goes in the wet bag.
It's a fun fabric to play with and easy to get because it's nothing you have to order in.... But really if you want to build your entire stash off it... I can't say it's a very good idea. IF you want to make your own stash w/out having to order PUL online, I'd just make a bunch of cute fitteds and pick up a few bummis covers (Most cities/towns will have a bummis retailer so they are easy to get). If you make fitteds you can get the proper fleece to line the inners, microfiber from costco to stuff the middle and any cute fabric you like for the outside.
One last thing... I've heard of people making diapers with a fleece outer.... you know, the kind of fleece they use for fleece soakers. Of course the fleece isn't as functional as PUL but it's breathable and perfect for light wetters or for people who like to change frequently.

Re: can you PUL your own fabric?
As far as the wicking issue. I find with aio's that alot of times if you have a print on the outer it will wick! For a workhorse of a diaper just plain pul seems to do the best! Of course the best of the best is a fitted and wool cover! Love this combination!
