Icon5 Bumgenious?

Anyone use Bumgenious? We have used disposables with DS (13 mo old) but I am considering switching to CD and using them with the new baby as well. I'm really interested in the BG one-size, all-in-one diapers.

They are a really great diaper. Very bullet-proof as far as containment goes and very easy to wash/maintain. They are extremely popular and soooo many people swear by them. I'd say that for the most part it would be a good choice for a new-to-cloth mum.

There are a couple things I don't like about them. First has to be the size. They were too small for my guy when I got him one a couple months ago (he was about a year and 1/2 then, turns 2 in August) I would say if your LO wears a size 5 pampers these will be too small. The other thing is I find the pocket to be a bit of a PITA to stuff and the design allows for poop to get on the insert once and a while. I know it's not the end of the world for poop to touch an insert but it bothers me This is why I prefer a diaper to have a pocket at the very top of the diaper and preferably with elastic on each side of the opening. And lastly, I'm not a huge fan of Velcro closure. I find Velcro ages fairly quickly and the washing tabs tend to ware out relatively quickly.... That and toddlers have a tendancy to remove diapers that come off easily

HTH!

I'm brand new to cd, and ordered a 6pack of BG. It has gone well so far, I have 2 almost 2yr olds and a newborn. My big girls don't seem to like them much, they are very bulky under their clothes. I like them best on the baby. However, using them has made me brave enough to try some prefolds with covers now, so I'll be ordering some soon.

BG are an easy intro to cloth, I think. Order from a place that has a guarantee, like kellyscloset.com, just in case you don't like them!

I LOVE the 4 bG one-sizer pockets that we have. Now my DD sleeps in a prefold (pf) snappi'd on, on top of our nekkie blankie. The elastic of all the covers etc., leave pink marks on her legs, and I like to give those chubby thighs a rest. But if she sleeps in a pocket dipe, it's a bumGenius. They have never failed to hold in the pees and the doods. Everytime - it stays where it belongs. The fabric that touches baby is a lot softer and holds up better than, say, the nubby kind of fleece in a Fuzzi Bunz. I do agree about the pocket location. Why put it there? My husband doesn't like that he has to reach through the poop sometimes. But they are a lot easier for more people to use. The stretch tabs are GREAT and the velcro, to me, makes for a more custom fit. If you get them, line dry or lay flat to dry. That will keep your velcro from turning outward. Any Q's we are here for ya girl!

And I agree. Cloth diaper store -Fuzzi Bunz cloth diapers, bumGenius diapers, Kissaluvs, Thirsties diaper covers at Kelly's Closet is a great place to buy from. Her site is very professional looking, and the prices are by and large the best on the net. Shipping is S L O W on standard shipping, but if timing isn't an issue I'd go there. She doesn't really carry my kind of variety on prefolds though. Anyway, I have bought from there several times.

And really, if you just want to try a couple out because you are unsure. Go to a place like diaperswappers.com and buy one used from there. I know it sounds blah to use used.... But if you use a diaper service, you are using used diapers and how many people use a diaper service? There are ways to sanitize diapers and most of the diapers that are sold are in like-new or excellent condition but cost a lot less. If you don't like them and they remain in the condition you got them, you can sell for the same price and just be out the cost of shipping.

This is the forum you would find them...

That's a good option too. If you find some labeled seconds, that's usually a good-as-new option too. There is something wrong with them, then it's fixed. So they aren't cosmetically perfect, but they are functionally great. But I've never seen bG seconds anywhere. I guess they are pretty good quality dipes. I would definitely look for some used to try out though. good idea Terry Lynn!

I don't have any BG AIO's but I just got one of their bamboo fitteds in the mail this week and dang it's tiny! It's a large and is supposed to fit my son weight-wise, but I have a feeling it's going to be too small. If that's the case I'll just save it for the next one.
