Default new and ? co-sleeping soft mattress

We have been co-sleeping with our son since he was 2 weeks old. He would not sleep in his co-sleeper attached to my bed. He is now 14 weeks old. I was just wondering if anyone was co-sleeping on a soft mattress. I know everything says no pillowtops or soft mattresses and we do have a pillowtop. He doesn't really sink into it and he always sleeps on his back or side after nursing. I was just getting worried the more I read. I think I was too sleep deprived before to be worried. I feel like it is fine but was just wondering. I don't want to stop co-sleeping and actually tried his crib the other night and it was a disaster for both of us.
Thanks
Lisa

Lisa,

I co-sleep and sleep on a soft mattress. I think as long as you keep them on their back, everything is ok

The guideline say no soft mattresses or waterbeds. That's why I purchased a firm mattress when we bought a new bed despite the salesman who freaked out when I refused to try any soft mattresses!!

However, since you already have a bed and aren't planning on shopping for a new one, I probably wouldn't worry about it too much. I find that when I co-sleep with my babies I'm much more in tune with them. When they roll over, when they start to stir, when the cat sits on their head, whatever...I INSTANTLY wake to a semi-concious state and take care of the their needs.

I'm sure you'll be aware of him if he flips onto his belly.

Good luck!!
