Default co-sleeping question

I'm not co-sleeping yet but I'm trying to gather some info on it. My daughter is 3 weeks old and I am SO tired at this point. She is sleeping in her bassinet next to my bed at night but she wakens so frequently and even when she is sleeping she is so restless that I am getting so sleep. So I am looking into my alternatives. How do you safely co-sleep? How young is too young to co-cleep? Any info you'd like to share I would appreciate. TIA

My son will be 3 weeks tomorrow. I was not going to co sleep with him. However, I was really tired. So, I started bringing him ot bed with me at about 10 days. WE have a king size bed and my DH works the grave shift so he is only i bed with us 2 nights per week. I breastfeed in bed with my baby while we co sleep.

I lay on my side with my arm stretched above Dylan's head so his nestled up aainst my chest about 3-4 inches below my arm pit. His feet hit my lower abdomen. HE nurses when he wants. I have a small alarm set for about 3am so I can change his diaper and switch sides.

It has been working great!! He sleeps better, I get about 7-8 hours of sleep. I was worried that I would roll over on him or he would suffocate. However, he is more rested and that maternal instinct we all have kicks in preventing us from rolling over our babies.

I co-sleep with Brooke every night!! I try to start her in her bassinet but she always ends up in bed with me and I do the same thing that Lena does! except some nights i put Brooke on a pillow so that she can reach my breast alittle better! I love it she sleeps so much better and so do i!

My baby is 3 1/2 months now and sleeping in her own bed but we co-slept until about 5 weeks when she started sleeping 8 to 9 hours a night.

Anyway, for my own peace of mind I laid DD in a sleep positioner right next to me, the positioner was against my belly so it gave me comfort that I wouldn't roll onto her, which I think maternal intincts help with that alot anyway.

However, a friend of mind wasn't so confident so she bought one of these http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...=baby&n=542338 and she really likes it. However by the time she showed it to me DD was 3 weeks old and sleeping at least a 5 hour stretch every night so I didn't see the point in paying $50 for something I didn't see me using but for a couple more weeks, which would have been the case in my situation. However, her baby is 29 days older and she is still having to breastfeed her little guy at least 2 times a night so she is still using it.

So I guess it really depends on your situation.

I didn't start co-sleeping with Cullen until he was about 5 or 6 months old. Newborns wake up a lot. I don't think co-sleeping is going to help that too much.

there is no too young to co sleep i have co slept with Izzy since birth. just make sure she is on the inside of the bed and that there is nothing over her neck or air ways. If you are worried about her falling out of bed you can line the floor with pillows but that doesnt usually happen. can't say i know anyone that that has happen to. but if u need to talk more to someone about it my yahoo messanger is eee_mom and i am usually logged in hugs
