Icon5 Co-sleeping with 3 month old

I'm new to this board...new to the site also, but I just wanted to come see what it was all about! I'm Jodi, and my daughter is Isabella, she's 3 months. We've been semi co-sleeping with her since birth, we have a side car attatchment on our bed, and we usually start her off in there and then she moves to the middle of the bed when I nurse her in the night. Anyways, my husband is more worried than I am about rolling over onto her, with the recent studies and AAP recs coming out, he's been wanting her to stay in her crib or in the side car, and not be in our bed...anyone else? I'm ok with it, and I know it would be some more adjustments for her sleep-wise, if it's ok she stays in the bed, I'd rather do that, but I also want to respect my husband's concerns...

If he is a real deep sleeper, his concerns are somewhat valid. My dh is really hard to wake, so I make sure baby is between me and the wall (or side sleeper). I am a really light sleeper, so I am very intune with where my baby is and what she's doing, as many mothers are. The main drawback with the sidecar (I used one for 3 of my kiddos) is it isn't really safe once baby can sit up and crawl and what not.

I guess all my rambling isn't much help, lol. I'd say, if you are a light sleeper it shouldn't be too much of an issue. Most cosleeping deaths occured when one parent had been drinking or using drugs or medication, or was very overweight (so fat they couldn't feel baby under them.)

My DH was worried about this with DS (our second, but first to co-sleep with) and so I kept him between me and the wall (with all safety measures taken there). This time around, he's much more intune and so we don't worry about it. We also have a king size bed though. lol

I'd say just keep the baby on the other side of you and then he won't need to worry about rolling onto her.

Dr. Sears has some good info here http://www.askdrsears.com/html/10/t102200.asp

Thank you ladies...that did help! My husband is a pretty deep sleeper, he "claims" to not even hear Bella in the night when she's crying...SURRRE...

So if he is such a deep sleeper, that's part of what might worry him I guess. I'll check on that Dr. Sears info, thanks Leigh Ann!

Thanks to you both.

My baby girl co-sleeps on the opposite side of me as well. My DH has had the same concerns but it's not an issue with Ellie on my other side. I'm "one of those" very in-tune moms...IOW, very sleep-deprived!

My dh had concerns like that as well. (as did I) It still just felt right with our Isabella (Izzy). She is making the transfer to her crib now though. I sleep weird when she's with us and I want my space back. It's weird not having her right next to me every night.
