Default Did you see Oprah today?

Really amazing show about a woman who has claimed to have unlocked the "secret language of babies". An amazing step in the right direction to help moms identify and respond to their babies needs quickly and appropriately. I watched it and when I started to watch thought it was a load of crap.. Just another "Baby whisperer", But HOLY COW! I swear it works! (at least it's worked for Reece so far )

Here are the basic sounds
Neh="I'm hungry"
Owh="I'm sleepy"
Heh="I'm experiencing discomfort"
Eair="I have lower gas"
Eh="I need to burp"

Those "words" are actually sound reflexes, Priscilla says. "Babies all around the world have the same reflexes, and they therefore make the same sounds," she says. If parents don't respond to those reflexes, Priscilla says the baby will eventually stop using them.

Priscilla recommends that parents listen for those words in a baby's pre-cry before they start crying hysterically. She says there is no one sound that's harder to hear than others because it varies by individual. She also says some babies use some words more than others
Finally! Someone "Mainstream" who advocates responding to your babies cries ASAP as opposed to simply creating/training a quiet well behaved baby.

I TOTALLY saw that!!! It was excellent! Thanks so much for including all the "words"... I really appreciated her playing each sound with several different babies because it really helped see real examples of the sounds from a baby instead of an adult imitating it... I now know I've heard those sounds before, but it's so great that someone actually decided to see if they mean the same thing every time! It's brilliant! I taped it when it was on later so we can learn the sounds when our new baby comes, but apparently there is a DVD coming out on November 27th, too... thanks for providing the link because then people can get her name, and the name of the DVD as well!

Ohhhh...I missed it but would really liked to have seen it. I'll have to try to catch the re-run. It's always fabulous when mainstream meets AP - even just a little bit.

I wish I had recoreded it so I could learn all the sounds better.. but the one sound that is really easy to hear (at least it is for me) is Neh-"I'm hungry". It's very distinct, even the way baby froms the sound is very distictive b/c it it looks a lot like a sucking reflex GWIM?

At least (as long as the site keeps the link) you can click on the video link on that page that says "Listen to the secret language of babies for yourself!" and watch the babies saying those 5 words on the site... it loaded pretty fast on our computer so it should work for most people

What's funny is now that I've actually had my second baby, he doesn't have 5 different sounds... he has many many different sounds and they ALL mean he is hungry! I've listened intently when I know he is hungry, and I don't hear the nyah thing... but again, seeing as nothing bothers him in the slightest except hunger, it's fine anyway!
