So I need help on the potty training front... You'd think after one kids I'd have it down, but no. Anyhow, here's the deal. Last fall we pulled out the potty and for a while Mateo (who was 2 1/2 then) was obsessed with it, but only really at night when he didn't want to go to bed. He would sneak downstairs and we would find him naked sitting on the potty, and we would let him sit there for a while, he never did anything, and then we would help him get dressed and go back upstairs. He would do this 2 or 3 times before going to bed and then one day he peed in the potty. I think I should have started putting him in underwear then (that's what we did with my daughter) but I didn't. He slowly lost interest in the potty. Then a couple of months later, he started just taking his diaper off when he was wet/poopy and I would find him running around the house bare-butted. At this point, I did go out and buy underwear (I let him pick the kind he wanted and everything) and put them on him. For two days, he would pee in his pants and then go sit on the potty. I thought we were getting somewhere. Then on the third day, he didn't go sit on the potty and said that he wanted to wear diapers. I reluctantly agreed. Now he wants nothing to do with the potty. I feel like I totally screwed him up now. I know I shouldn't compare, but my friend who's son won't be 3 until July just potty trained, and it's hard not to think that maybe I missed my chance to get him while he was receptive to it. Is anyone else's almost 3 year-old still in diapers? Is he going to be wearing diapers until he is 5?
