Hi Everyone!!!!
I am so sorry it's taken me so long to post!!!
Reece arrived at 5:59 pm Monday night after a fairly uneventful labor and he's just perfect!
We got to the hospital about 9AM, and filled out all the papers, etc. By the time I got into my room it was about 10, and by the time they started the IV and Pitocin it was 10:45. They put us in the high risk room to start out b/c they were really busy, but told us we would be moving to a regular delivery room as soon as possible. My nurse was an absolute godsend, she was WONDERFUL. Her name was Kacey and I was her only patient all day, so she was SO attentive and just great, she made the day so much more enjoyable.
A resident came in to break my water but couldn't do it, she said my cervix was posterior but (thank god) the baby wasn't. She tried breaking my water while my nurse pushed on my stomach to move the baby's butt down but it didn't work - hurt like hell though! I was still a 3 at this point. I started feeling contractions a few mins later, but nothing major. My nurse told me that the resident would be back to try again in about a half hour, but she wanted me to get my epi first b/c the first try had been so painful. I really didn't want to get the epi yet - my pain was still tolerable, and I kind of wanted to hold out. But about 20 mins later, the anesthesiologist showed up and the nurse strongly encouraged me to go ahead and get it, b/c she was worried I would progress really fast and he wouldn't be back around again for awhile, so I went ahead and got it. I got a little panicky while he was prepping me, I felt scared and started freaking out a little, dh and my nurse both kept reassuring me though. Kacey held my hands and rubbed my shoulders and I was OK....right after I felt the injection I started feeling really lightheaded and weird for a minute, but they got it all in and taped it up, got me back in bed and everything, and then the guy waited with us through a few contractions....and we realized it wasn't working! I was feeling everything, and I had no numbness or anything - he hadn't put it in far enough!!! So I had to sit back up and everything, and do it all over again!!! Luckily I didn't feel it at all the second time though, it was just a pain to have to do it all over again. The anesthesiologist was SO nice and very apologetic.
So then my OB came in and broke my water easily - at that point I was at a 5. She left and said she'd be checking in with Kacey and she guessed I would be ready around 2:30. I was pretty much comfortable after that, just eager for things to get started. Well Kacey came in to check my fluids, etc. every half hour or so, she kept telling me to try and get some rest but I just couldn't sleep! She finally checked me again about 1:30, and I was still at 5! I was like ugh! I started to worry a little, that I would end up having a C Section b/c of not progressing. My OB came in about 2:30 and they checked me again, she said I was a good 5, "maybe" a 6. I was ready to cry - I was expecting to be like, having the baby by this time and I was just stuck at 5!! I was really starting to worry, I told Kacey I was so worried about having a C Section and all that, she was like I am not going to let that happen! We moved rooms about 4, to the bigger L & D room and she checked me again - still a 6!!! She had me sit up really tall in the bed, with pillows behind me, and I started definitely feeling some pain, not unbearable, but at least I felt like something was happening! She said I was having some really good contractions at that point. It felt so good to sit up, I started relaxing and almost fell over sideways b/c of my legs being numb!!!
After that she had me turn over and get on all fours, which also felt really good. I stayed that way for about a half hour, and when she checked me after that I was an 8 and had some bloody show. She started getting everything ready and said she thought I'd be ready very soon. Right about then I REALLY started feeling pain, I was like, HOLY CRAP!!!! I was kind of relieved, just knowing something really WAS happening, but whoa!!! She checked and my epi had worn off! So the guy came in and redosed me, RIGHT in time - she checked me again and said, "your baby's head is RIGHT there, it's time to push." My doc came in and was washing her hands and I was like, I need to push! Kacey said, go ahead and push, so I started. Shortly after, my OB came over. I pushed through 4 contractions and Reece was born!!! They gave him to me right away and he was just beautiful!! I ended up needing one stitch, which was less than I had with Freddie.
They got Reece all cleaned up and dh took pictures while they finished everything up with me, then I tried to nurse him but he was totally uninterested. We spent some time just me, dh and Reece, just holding him and me trying to nurse him, then I let my parents come in, they were waiting outside. They stayed a short visit, then after they left they took me up to recovery while they took Reece to the nursery for his bath. When we got back to our room, I sent dh out for food (a bad snowstorm was on the way and I wanted some food before it got too bad for him to go out!). When Fred finally got back - with Chipotle and glazed Krispy Kremes, YUMMY! - they still hadn't brought Reece back and I was starting to worry! We called the nurse and she checked and said he was 1 degree below normal temp and they had him in the warmer...I went ahead and ate my food and by the time I was done she brought him in, looking adorable of course!
Reece finally came around to trying to nurse around midday on Tuesday, but had a hard time latching at first. When the LC came around to check on us, she helped me get him latched on really good, and he finally seemed to "get it." Since then, he's been nursing beautifully! I spent all of Tuesday in the hospital alone - the weather was so bad, no one could come visit, and Fred was at home with Freddie. It was actually very nice and restful having the time to spend just with Reece, and rest - he slept right in my bed with me and we just stayed snuggled up all day. That night, the cable went out b/c of the weather, which SUCKED big time, but it FINALLY came back on later that night after a few hours.
Wednesday my OB checked me out and Fred came to get us, and we got home around 4, I couldn't wait to see Freddie, I missed him SO much! I had Fred carry Reese in and went in first, and Freddie brushed right past me saying, "Where's Weese?" Ha ha!!
So far Freddie is adjusting pretty well, he is semi interested in the baby but not overly so, and he's actually been very gentle for the most part. He's a little in Reece's face at times but nowhere near as bad as I thought he'd be!
Reece is a very laid back baby so far, knock on wood, he had bad gas on Wed and Thurs night when his stool was transitioning, but other than that he's been very low key.
Here are some pics:
Thanks for looking!!! I will be trying to get caught up soon!!!
