Icon11 Ttc + Ibs?

Hi Everyone! My husband and I have recently started TTC. I was diagnosed with IBS several years ago and was wondering if anyone had any experience with this disease while TTC. My symptoms usually go away while pregnant, but I have had serious, chronic episodes this last year. Has anyone ever used ProGreens while pregnant?

TIA!!!

Kayla I am sorry but I personally don't know anything about your question. But I just wanted you to know I am thinking about you and I hope you will be getting a BFP soon.
Hopefully there will be someone here that can help you

yeah I don't know the answer to that one either. Do you take the pro greens to help your IBS symptoms? Doesn't sound like it would interfere with TTC but someone else might know more about it.

Best of lucl to you!

Hi Kayla,
You've found the right person to ask. I have a diagnosis of IBS (it's annoying isn't it? and have had it since high school. I have two kids so far (we'll start ttc our 3rd this August) and amazingly I was the most regular I have ever been while pregnant. Things just moved as they should while I was pregnant. It is safe to take Colace and I think between the two pregnancies I took it maybe 2-3 times. If I may ask is your IBS on more the constipation side or diarrhea side? Mine is the constipation side. The part that always scared me the most during my pregnancies was the straining to go #2 so I always made sure I was drinking plenty of water, eating my fruits and veggies and just taking really good care of myself. The things that can trigger an attack for me are lack of sleep, stress, and sometimes the wrong foods (I sometimes have trouble with lactose) I do not know about Pro Greens. What is that? As long as I really make sure I don't get into trouble with my triggers while pregnant I've been ok. I do know of a severe case (Kelsey Grammar's wife Camile) who has such severe IBS that they had a surrogate carry both their children but I think that's pretty rare. Just out of curiousity what are your attacks like? Mine are usually at night for some odd reason and it starts on one side of my tummy and moves very slowly and complete attack is done when the pain has moved all the way across my tummy or I have been able to go to the bathroom. IBS sucks and I've had such bad attacks where I've been laying in a fetal position on the bathroom floor sweating and throwing up and holding my tummy in extreme pain. Some of my attacks have been so bad I'd go so far as to compare them with labor. I've never met anyone on these boards who has IBS and is willing to talk about it (after all it IS kind of an embarrasing disorder) Care to discuss it more, what works? What doesn't? I hope you get that BFP soon

Thanks for the responses! I am so glad to finally have met someone on SK who is also an IBS "victim".

I started off with IBS-C, then it went to IBS-D (the WORST ever!) and now I alternate. I am not able to eat a lot of food. No beans or anything in a shell, red meat, raw fruit or vegetables, cut down on lactose, soda, coffee, tea, citrus juice, chips..etc...etc.. the list goes on and on.

I've taken some medicine to calm my stomach so that it doesn't produce so much acid, but it doesn't help. I think mine has a lot to do with anxiety/stress and foods that trigger an attack.

ProGreens : ProGreens It tastes HORRIBLE but it's supposed to help. It says on the bottle it's okay for pregnant women to take one serving a day.

Like you, I have also been in so much pain, I've been to the ER twice. It feels like something is about to burst inside of me. I heard on the news last night the FDA approved something for IBS-C. Maybe you could look into that.

Kayla-
Kinda funny we're "bonding" over IBS huh My aunt has it, too but she's managed to not have an attack in years. I've found mine kind of goes in cyles...like I'll have attacks several days in a row and be miserable and then once my body empties out (if you know what I mean) I'm good again for a while. My brother has Crohn's disease which is even more severe than IBS. Something I've found that sometimes helps (though not always) is if I feel an attack coming on I'll put a heating pad on my tummy and sometimes that helps "calm things down" or at least lessen the pain. Starbucks (nothing like a good mocha) also gets things moving I've discovered You may want to try that. I absolutely have to avoid any kind of Mexican food. Water is HUGE to keep things moving. Soda sometimes triggers one. The biggest thing I HAVE to do is make sure I get enough sleep or I'm pretty much guaranteed to get an attack. That's ok..I love to sleep I was very fortunate my last ob/gyn (we've moved since having her) actually had IBS and she was my doctor all through my second pregnancy so she was very helpful. She could totally relate to what I was experiencing. Really gotta watch the stress level, too. As I said in my previous post my attacks are so unbelievably painful...I'm literally hunched over, sweating, sometimes puking, and groaning. I know it's my body trying to push things through but OMG. I, too, have been in the ER for this as well. Mine is mostly constipation but I have had the diarrhea before as well. Amitiza is the drug and I may look into it. I know pretty much how to avoid attacks but it would be nice to take something that would help. Drink lots of water daily, eat lots of fiber; those are all things that help, too.

Hi, I just thought I'd let you know I'm an IBS sufferer too! I hate it! I have severe & chronic constipation side! When I was pg last year I was getting regular too. I went several times a day until my m/c (sorry if that's tmi). I have wondered if my IBS would interfere with TTC. I swear I always have to go right after bd & right around O time. I swear that's why I've had s! Anyway, nice to meet some women like me.

The things we share on this board! Is there anything we won't discuss?!

Pamela-
Maybe we need to start a TTC with IBS board. IBS sucks doesn't it? You sound like me.....you have the constipation side of it. I don't have to go before or after bd but whenever my mom calls it seems I get the urge to go It's kind of like a running joke with my mom and I. if I'm constipated she just tells me to call her. I can't tell you how many times I've talked to her while in the bathroom. It's just weird. How long have you had IBS? Wasn't the testing to actually diagnose this disorder so lovely? I had a sigmoidoscopy, colonoscopy, and several other very unconfortable tests. And yeah, what WON'T we discuss on here LOL Nice to meet you

Discuss away girls!
Hey if there is something that will help someone then I don't care what it is about. Nothing is too much TMI if it helps someone with a problem. That is what these boards are all about.
