Ok I found another name that I am falling in love with.
Mallory Anne.
Fell in love with it till dh reminded me that Mallory is our neighbors last name. we are not exceptionally close to this family, but we do talk to eachother when we see eachother, and dh does help them with things around the house and yard when needed because the husband has some health issues and is very unwell most of the time.
If you were me would you still consider the name, or would you think it too weird, and just forget it. Dh liked it till we remembered this bit of news. But I am wondering if it still can be considered. what would you do.

My BIL (DH's bro) has a middle name that was adapted from a last name of a friend of the family (as in, the last name was Jolly, and his middle name is Jolee (like Jo-Lee)). I don't think there is anything wrong with it. If it were me, I would think it was cute - and I'm sure they know plenty of girls named Mallory.

hmmm well girls I did a little research on the name, and I am normaly not one to know or care much about meaning of names. BUT Mallory means Unlucky. That seems so mean to have that kind of a meaning for such a beautiful name.
I can only picture little Mallory at 9 asking me mommy what does my name mean? Oh well honey name books says your name means unlucky.
I think I might have to go back to the drawing board once again. (sigh)

I thought I could move on from this name, but it has been a week now and I am still loving this name! But I am still not sure with the negative meaning to it if I feel totally comfortable in going for it. And I am not sure I can get dh to go for the name either with it's meaning.
Without the meaning I know i could convince him though.
What should i do! Would any of you name your daughter Mallory even with the meaning meaning unlucky, ill fated?

I have a friend named Mallory and she's nothing but. It depends on the language, too: in Hebrew my name means "God's Grace", in Hindi, Arabic and Japanese it means "Flower".

The meaning of a name is by no means the be all and end all.

I say go for it - if you or the neighbor ever moves, would solve that problem - as for the meaning - I'm a friday the 13th b-day (every 6-7 years) and i don't see it as an unlucky day

Shoot - I like Anya (from Buffy the V.S.) so that conversation would be "yeah we named you after a demon on a tv show"
