New/charting questions
Hi everyone, I'm "new"! I've actually been coming to SK since January of 2004. I had been trying to get pregnant since March of 2003. I spent a couple of months reading a lot of posts here, and got pregnant in March of 2004. Since then I've continued to lurk around all the boards, but not posting enough. Now we're trying for #2, and hoping it happens faster than Ava did. I'm on my second cycle after stopping birth control, and decided I would try to chart. I didn't expect cycle 1 to be so regular looking, since the 1st time I stopped BCP's, my cycles were 40-50 days for months. But this cycle, if I see another 98.1 or 98.3 I'm going to scream. What has been your experience with stopping BCP's? Where's my ovulation? Any tips on charting? I know I should get a basal thermometer, but I try to take my temp at the same time in the am, before I get out of bed. Any other hints?
Thanks,
Laura

Re: New/charting questions
 and
Ava Grace is so cute....I see why you would want another one
I think your first step would be to get a BBT. Those temps are high because you are using a regular thermometer. Go and invest in a BBT (not like they are more than $10 or anything). That way you will be able to see your true temp shift and that helps. Your pre O temps should be around 97.something and post O temps 98.something +
I would also throw in some OPK's and that will help you detect your O. Start around CD11 and do it in the afternoon....12-3pm.
GOOD LUCK!!!

Re: New/charting questions
Hi Lindsay,
This is a stupid question, but, are the basal thermometers right next to the regular ones at the store? Do they say basal on the packaging?

Re: New/charting questions
They do say basal on them. Maybe even BBT. I found mine in the medical section of Wallyworld...so I am sure they are there, you could even ask the pharmacist.

Re: New/charting questions
All of the basal thermometers I have seen are purple... lol... not sure if that's ALL of them, but it would be something to look at! At my CVS, they are next to the pregnancy tests and OPKs.
Have you read Taking Charge of Your Fertility, by Toni Weshler? That was my bible while TTC, and it tells you everything you could ever want to know about charting, in plain English.
Good luck!

Re: New/charting questions
Ok, I bought my BBT tonight. Hopefully I'll see a difference in temps tomorrow. And, it's purple!

Re: New/charting questions
Whats up with the purple BBT's? LOL!!!
You will see a difference but to get the full effect you should start at the begining of a cycle.
